Vodafone Retention Deals

Your deal is pretty much what they offered me but I knocked them back after reading this forum. I pay 28 just now and don't want to pay more. I don't need unlimited mins but I do need a good deal of text/data. I've already had one pac, I'm gonna try again at start of July and push for a sub 25deal with 100mms, though I'm sceptical it'll happen, no one on here has been offered cracking deals. I've already organised a giff gaff sim and I'm gonna keep an eye out for a deal on o2 in the coming months, just for their coverage.
Well this is the thing.
If retentions can offer 50% discounts without even thinking about it, why are they letting people walk away (and losing commission) when they turn down 30% discounts.
I understand it's to do with ratios/time of month etc, but like you say not many on here seem to have actually been offered great deals.
Would be interested to get VodafoneInsiders opinion on the following:
1. Guy told me max he can offer is 20%, then needs a manager to authorise 30%, which he did.
2. In the end he couldn't do the deal (is ringing back today) because it was late and manager had logged out of system. So lost chance to close it there and then even though I'd given the go-ahead.
3. When I asked for free 08s to close the deal (I'd acted totally disinterested and said I wouldn't take it up until that point), he said 'system' just wouldn't allow anything else on top of that 30% deal.
4. Can retentions add a VEA discount on top of what they're doing, or can you get the discount in a Voda shop like normal after the deal, even though you already have a big discount.
5. Can retentions 'make up' their own plans. E.g. Can you take a plan that has 500mb and just push it up to a GB. Guy I spoke to suggested not.0 -
Would be grateful to hear people's recent S4 deals. I'm looking for a GB of data under £30 plus free phone. Realistic? Also do retentions do 18 month deals anymore, or is that all over now?
How? Well it took about two or three days to complete the deal.
First port of call the standard sales person all they could do was offer £33 per month, not sure now but I don't think it was unlimited minutes and it was 1gb data. Requested pac code. Received it no hassle.
As VodafoneInsider has said I was called back within 24 hours by retention what can we do for you. They offered me to deals each of which worked out around £30 odd pounds. Told them I'd think about it and asked them to ring back the following day.
When they rang back I said the deal wasn't that good , told them I was concerned about the value of the phone and asked what way it would work if I took out insurance. Away the retention salesperson went and came back a few minutes later with the figure of £25.20 plus £10 insurance, again taking it back up to the $35 pound mark. I accepted. The only cavet I'd add here was that I was renewing two phones but I don't think that should matter. Do the figures and the discount works out at 40 percent of Vodafones advertised £42 tarrif.
After the phone arrived I phoned by insurance broker and asked his advice re the insurance, he told me that for loss, theift, damage, I was covered but I wasn't covered for mechnical defaults so I decided that Vodafone's insurance wasn't that great and cancelled it within my seven day colling off period. Which means of course I now have my phone for £25.20 a month with unlimited calls, texts and 2gb data.0 -
As I mentioned earlier on in this thread I got my phone for £25.20 per month that included unlimited minutes and texts plus 2GB data.

If I'd been offered this deal, with the mms bundle included, I'd have taken it, but the guys either couldn't or wouldn't, offer me near to what I wanted.0 -
@VodafoneInsider
I've had to send my phone back as the finish on it was shocking; sharp edges, gaps and glue on the side panel. I received a replacement phone which is also being returned.
I requested to cancel the contract as it was within 7 days. I was told that an envelope would be sent out to me and when it was returned to them the contract would be cancelled. I'm still waiting for this envelope which I requested on Wednesday.
Where does this leave me now? Will I be put back on my original price plan and have to request my pac code in order to renegotiate a deal? The phone is brilliant but I'm not prepared to accept a £500 phone that has been finished so poorly.

I think the key to knocking the deal down to the £25 mark is insurance.
When making the deal I think you have to play smart and appear as if you are really and truely interested in the insurance. Argos, Vodafone, Currys any of those major companies that sell their own insurance make borrow-loads of profit from them but you just can't say 'oh yes and what about insurance, would that bring the deal down.' You've got to sound as if you really do want it.
Try it - it worked for me.0 -
Well I said I'd update people so here goes:
Voda simply wouldn't get me a decent price. I am now on Virgin for at least 30 days. The transition was effortless and the customer service person (all be it no doubt in India) was smooth and efficient.
The signal now doesn't drop at the top of the hellers near my work so that's a bonus. I've not dropped a call once as yet. Data is fast enough for me as I rarely use it.
All in all, a great deal by the looks of it so far. £12 after paying 25+ all my life! Saving me a fortune and my S3 is hardly old tech!I am firmly across the line. I won't impose my values on you if you keep away from mine.

What did Voda offer you?
Those virgin deals are really good.0 -
Not a retention deal but my contract finishes very early August but I can upgrade now if I want or pay off the rest of my contract to start again. We went in to VF shop today just to see what deal they would give me. I asked for Samsung S4. They offered 300 mins, u/l texts, 250mg PLUS cost of phone £179.99 for £33 per month! Obviously no new contract was agreed! Even Carphone Warehouse offered the phone for free for a £33 per month contract or £49.99 if paying £29.
Goes to show 15 years staying with same company doesn't mean a thing to them - as we knew!0 -
In my opinion ..... Don't do an early upgrade. If you are upgrading early you can't be leaving Vodafone and going to a different network - which takes away your bargaining power. Vodafone want to retain customers. Wait until your contract is up. Get your PAC code at the start of the month - early in the week - and haggle when retentions phone you - probably the next day. They will not begin by offering you their best deal - tell them what you want and see how near to what you want they can get. You will know what deals might be possible by reading various forums - such as this - in advance.0

Thanks Bluestone. I've only got another few weeks so not in any hurry. Upgrade date is 6th August.0
