  • I had never heard of Talkmobile (assume they're part of TalkTalk and CPW?) but their prices are really good - ok they're not the absolute latest handsets but I'm amazed still that they're doing the Galaxy S for free at £30/month on a 12 month contract!

And they use the vodafone network? Sounds a good deal!

    Taken from QUIDCO:
Talkmobile is a low-cost mobile network from the Carphone Warehouse. Launched in April 2008, it replaced the hugely successful Fresh Mobile and Mobile World propositions. Our support from Vodafone means customers get 99.7% UK coverage!

I've been out of contract since the start of the year with Vodafone. Been with them for many years like others here.
Unsurprisingly Voda have not been hot on the phone to try cut me a new deal as I have a pretty old Nokia and have been paying over the odds for some time... bills usually come in around £40 per month despite me rarely going over 400 mins out of a 900 mins allowance.

Anyway I have considered going to pay monthly although I'd like a phone with internet data usage allowance and will prob pay over the odds on PAYG.

Would only want either the HTC Desire HD or iPhone 4 and have already spoken to someone at Voda who only seemed to be able to offer me more or less whats on offer in store or online.

For me to stay on contract ideally I'm looking for 500-600 mins, ultd texts, 500MB and a new handset (free) all for under £30 per month. Also dont want any more than 18month contract, 12 months ideally. This doesnt seem to be a big ask but is it out of the question with vodafone?

I see someone talking above about requesting your PAC code... so can I do this and get it without actually being disconnected from my contract? And are retentions more likely to give me a better offer if I start requesting a PAC?

It seems in general there aren't really any good cheap deals on decent handsets these days. Its still fairly pricey business owning a mobile when the cost of connecting your calls and data is pretty minimal now to the service providers!

You guys who mention that you've spoken to vodafone but they're not offering anything better than what's on the website, which team are you speaking to? If it's the normal retentions team by dialling the customer services number they aren't the ones to speak to. You need to get through to the dedicated web team (contact details are on the vodafone forum I think)

I have stuck to 12 month contracts because I prefer them, they end up costing a bit more but I don't mind that. Last year on upgrade for the HTC Desire the phone cost £50 and then £35/month for 12 months. However due to problems with the handset this was then replaced with a Samsung Galaxy S and my contract was reduced to £25/month.

The web relations team can do far better deals than normal customer services, always worth getting in touch with them :)

What are the contact details and what Vodafone forum are the contact details on?

    This is the forum: forum.vodafone.co.uk

And if I remember correctly to contact them you send them an email via the main vodafone site with WRT135 in the subject. However I think you can get in touch with the team directly via the forum as well.

Are the WRT team better than retentions?
I phoned this afternoon to enquire about upgrade options and was told a couple of ok deals but then checked via my upgrade options online and found that was a better looking deal so appears the web deals could be better

When you called retentions did you ask for your PAC code? In my experience they'll only offer you better deals if you seem serious about leaving.

No I didn't ask for my PAC, I'll try again tomorrow and see. I hadn't decided on the phone i wanted so didn't have a good reason to ask for PAC

Requested my pac code from vodafone the other day as they could match a deal i found elsewhere. Got a call from vodafone retentions who offered me

    Samsung Galaxy S
    600 mins
    unlimited texts
    1gb internet
    free phone
    24 months

    £20 a month including VAT

    Is this a good deal?
Would pay monthly prices for galaxy s2 be anywhere near this price?

so you got your pac code, cancelled you contract and then they called you?

Yes they are the ones who can offer the absolute best deal possible (although so far they haven't been able to offer me anything that spectacular)

On the SGS2 I've been offered £256 for the phone then £25/month for 12 months or £180 for the phone and then £35/month for 12 months.

It seems it has to total over the term of the contract somewhere between £550 and £600 and that's all they have to play with. You can get it free for £25/month over 24 months so that's the magic £600 again.

Only problem is that I want to stay on 12 months and can't find anything a lot better on the open market - only talk mobile but that's only like £30 cheaper overall so not worth the hassle of changing.
