Vodafone contract due to expire in a month or so. I’ve been a customer for ten years plus. My average bill over the past year has been around £20 per month (including the cost of a few overseas trips using their Passport feature).

Currently have 125 mins (with Stop the Clock = 1 hr call for 3 inclusive mins off peak) + 250 sms + Passport + Family, all for £17.76 per month. Other than the occasional additional overseas costs mentioned above, I never use all my minutes or texts as the majority of my phone calls are to my family group or off peak under STC.

I also don’t need a new phone, as have a rooted/debranded Orange SF, and don’t need a data allowance, as I have a 3 Mifi dongle with sufficient allowance for both smartphone and laptop.

Rang Vodafone earlier and their offer was either:
    (a) retain my existing deal at the same price (£17.76) for 9 months, then renegotiate or
    (b) 300 mins + unlimited texts for £15.00 per month, still with Family group and Passport, though without Stop the Clock, as this is no longer available.
    Both SIM only deals.

Can I get a similar and better deal anywhere else, bearing in mind that two of my Family group members are elderly relatives, who might find it a hassle to change providers and frequently use the current Family part of the deal to ring each other free as well as me?
Alternatively, can I realistically press Vodafone for something more?

Thanks for any thoughts or advice.

I'm not sure what the family group is or how much it costs, but I've recently spoken to VF about upgrading and questioned what a SIM only upgrade would be just to compare and was offered 300 mins, unlimited texts, 1GB internet for £12.50/month for 9 months and then £25 for the last 3 (12 month contract)

Basically the impression I got was that they'll pretty much do whatever tariff you want half price for 9 months SIM only so if what you've got there would normally cost £30 a month then I suppose it's ok, but I'm not sure it would so push for a better price :)

I got my PAC from Vodafone yesterday (my contract is up next month) and was only offered the deals that were on their website, ie nothing special. They said that they could not match the deal that was available on quidco, so didn't try, basically

    Same here!
I want the Samsung Galaxy S - currently available with Talkmobile for £18 p.m. for 300 mins, 1000 texts & Unltd internet.
The nearest Vodafone got to this was to offer me the same phone, for which they wanted to charge me £50 for, and a similar package, but for £25 p.m.

I've been with Voda for a few years now, and all my family have contracts, all in my name. My usual monthly bill is around £70 p.m.
But, they obviously don't need my business anymore!

Have gone for the Talkmobile package - hopefully £55 Quidco too (and they use the vodafone network)

I had never heard of Talkmobile (assume they're part of TalkTalk and CPW?) but their prices are really good - ok they're not the absolute latest handsets but I'm amazed still that they're doing the Galaxy S for free at £30/month on a 12 month contract!

And they use the vodafone network? Sounds a good deal!

My quick question is if the contract is due to end next month do I continue on same terms until I decide what I intend to do, either renew or leave?

    Just curious cheers :)

I would say, phone up to get your PAC & see what they offer you.
Shop around in the meantime & see what else is available. You will get billed until the end of your contract and, if you don't use your PAC code, your contrract will stay the same anyway. (until it expires)
