Had a think through everything and am thinking that although I want an iPhone 4, I've seen some great retention offers in this thread so it may make more economic sense to go for an alternative. If I was offered the Samsung Galaxy S 18 month deal at £20 a month with 300 mins, texts, 500mb of data that someone else got a few pages back, I'd accept that and then upgrade to the new iPhone in 18 months at the end of this contract. I've been paying £35 a month line rental for the past almost four years so I'd hope I'd be in line for something similar to the person previously offered this.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to play this? I'm going to be asking for my PAC on Saturday still as I've seen better iPhone offers on other networks, and doing this gives me the flexibility in staying if I get a good Samsung Galaxy S offer.
  • Hi Guys,

    Quick question...

I've been with vodafone about 10 yrs now. Rang yesterday & was told the contract has ended and i was free to upgrade. Asked about upgrade offers and basically was given a deal worse than what i could get as a new vodafone customer. So requested PAC code.

The deal i wanted i was prepared to pay £25 p/month for it. I got a call today from retentions offering me the deal i want for £30 p/month, £5 more than what I'm prepared to pay. I refused and so he texted me my PAC and said you're free to go. If you find a deal today, you can go today.

My question is after they call and you refuse their offer which results in them sending you a pac and you're out of contract, which means you're free to move straight away, do they call again with a better offer? Or is that it? I dont want to take up a contract elsewhere only for them to ring after that with the offer i wanted you see, so want to know what ppls experiences are with retentions offers once you're out of contract and recieve your pac.

The retentions department will be able to offer you a better deal than the upgrades guys. They should give you a call sometime within a week of requesting yout PAC code, or last time I had a letter it had a number to call if you wanted to discuss it before finally leaving. For the sake of a fiver a month, I think you'll end up getting your way.

What phone are you after out of interest?
  • Thanks for posting this- this is exactly the kind of deal i'm looking for. My contract is up at the beginning of April, how does the retentions process work?

Can I phone up now and threaten to quit or does it have to be a month before my contract is due up e.g. start of March. I've always had PAYG phones and this is my first contract, I'm unsure on how this all works.

    Thanks.

This sort of deal would be ideal for me as well.

My contracts up on 26th March...currently on £35 per month Nokia 5800, 600mins, unl text, 500mb internet data. Although it was an online deal and I got first 10 months half price it still feels like daylight robbery.

Going to call Vodafone tomorrow and see what they offer on the HD Desire then request my PAC regardless. What would you rate my chances of getting offered this....

£15 per month HTC HD Desire 4 18 months
    300mins
    Unlimited text
    500mb internet data

Vodafone have messed me around alot so still undecided whether I will stay. Decisions, decisions, decisions!

  • Hi

Just thought I'd post my experience in case it helps anyone after searching this forum myself for some tips.

Phoned 2 weeks ago to generally enquire about what was available. Current contract was a SIM only deal that expired 4-5 months ago (but its taken me this long to pluck up the courage to haggle!). It was initially £10 per month for 600 minutes & unlimited texts (on a now old phone) but this increased to £20 when the offer period ended.

I knew I was looking for a smartphone with at least 300 minutes, unlimited texts and some data. Cheapest they could do was £25 per month for a 24 month contract and 500MB data and they offered me the HTC wildfire. Maximum I wanted to pay was £20 per month and be locked in for a maximum of 18 months so ended the call saying I'd look around.

Following a period of further research, I decided the HTC wildfire could be the one for me but struggled to find anything on the internet for less than £25 per month for 24 month lock in. Interestingly three called me during this period and offered same phone 500 minutes, unlimited texts and data, 18 month contract for £20 per month (but coverage in my area not great). I therefore called Vodafone back in the hope that they could match the offer, chose the option 'thinking of leaving' and spoke to the allegedly 'high value' team who still could not offer anything less than the original £25 per month lock in contract although he was prepared to give me the HTC desire. Whilst I know this is the better model, I think that the wildfire will be sufficient for my needs and therefore the monthly cost was still an issue. After trying to blind me with science, slating all other networks, assuring me this was the best deal I would find, he said that there was nothing further he or anyone at VF could do and therefore would request a PAC code so I was free to leave. I've been with VF for approx. 10 years but this seemed to have little bearing on anything. I came off the phone very angry as I found his tone quite aggressive and seemingly my loyalty meant nothing.

Nevertheless, all day VF have been trying to contact me. I finally took a call tonight from a very nice sounding man at the 'loyalty' team who have finally offered me a £20 per month contract for HTC Wildfire - 18 month lock in, 300 minutes, unlimited texts, 500MB data and VF Passport which seems to be an ok deal (and ultimately what I was looking for) so have gone for it. Just annoys me that every time you want to upgrade you have to go through this farce!!!!

Thats the thing I had the call from retentions they offered £30 p/month, i wanted £25. He gave me my pac and said i'm free to go.

What i want to know is there anyone who has rejected the offer made by the retentions team once you order pac? do they make any subsequent calls with better offers? ie, will i get another call or is that it?

Sorry. Misinterpreted the bit in the middle of your post.

I can only give an anecdotal opinion, but I doubt you would get a further offer from retentions, although I suppose you could push them all the way, decline, take them to their final offer and then call later/next day to see if you can accept what was their final offer if you walked away before.

You'd probably have to pay a fair wack for the handset to get that price! - I think you'd be doing well to get one free on a £25 a month contract.
  • So nobody know if after requesting PAC if retentions call and you reject their offer, do they call again or is that it?

I'm on a Sim only deal at £10 PM. Phoned and asked for PAC code on Wed. I had a call today and was offered 600 mins, UL text, Passport, UL V to V calls for £10 PM. Just what I wanted. OK, I could go via Quidco etc but it was the 600 mins that swayed me to stay.
