Is the 0845 numbers for the whole 900mins as i only managed to get 100 extra mins for these

Yes on my sim-only plan 0845/0800/0870 calls come out from my inclusive mins (900). However on some plans where they add this as a freebie then you only get 100 mins pm to such numbers.
  • If VF don't offer me a decent upgrade deal. Can I just cancel at the end of my contract and then go through quidco to get the £90 cashback on the £15 a month 12 month only contract. Or do you have to be away from them for a period of time before you can qualify for the cashback.

Did a deal with Vodafone today after requesting my PAC. Managed to get:

    - HTC Desire HD (Free with free delivery)
    - 600 Minutes
    - Unlimited Texts
    - 500MB Data

Was offered it for £20 per month for 24 months or £25 per month for 18 months. Went for the 24 months given the additional outlay during the 18 months would pay for four and a half months at the 24 month rate.

I also have Vodafone family at £5.00 per month which I am keeping, so I don't know if that makes any difference or not. I can remove that at any time, though it suits me to have it to be honest.

Would have preferred a shorter term and am aware it's not as good as some of the Orange retention deals (someone is getting the same deal for £15.31 on Orange IIRC), but I'm relatively happy and I always have my 7 days cooling off period if I change my mind over the weekend.

Handset was due to be delivered on Monday, but received a text tonight saying the order had been delayed, so we'll see what happens; if it's going to turn ot into a drawn out affair I'll probably go back to looking elsewhere as planned.

Thanks to the Web Relations Team too; all of the help was much appreciated even though you don't have the same room for negotiation as retentions.

    Morning all.

I have had my deal confirmed by the Web Relations Team, but, having been told the handset was in stock for delivery on Monday it now turns out that is not the case and I won't get it until Vodafone receive their next shipment.

Have been advised that this should be in the next 7 days but could change due to circumstances beyond their control so am going to resume looking at other deals over the weekend and go from there.

Really thought this had gone smoothly... :(

    Cheers again,

  • I had just finished an 18 month contract with Vodafone (HTC Magic for 15 months half price line rental). Wanted to go for another android phone but HTC seems to be way over priced!

I didn't want a 24 month contract, and didn't want to pay any more than £20 a month. The wildfile seems a step down from the HTC Magic (smaller screen res) so decided to buy the Orange Sanfrancisco (great phone! Unlocks for free!) for £90.

So wanted a £10 a month contract. Was looking at the Tesco Sim (500 mins, 3000 texts, 500mb of data), but Tesco are quite sneeky, charging like £1 for every 4mb of data you go over. I did actually order one of their cards and paid for a month but will cancel that now.

The first time i called vodafone I said i was leaving to three (as the tesco deal had ended), of which the guy sounded more than happy for me to leave, ended up transfering to the customer service team and quickly ended the call. Called up vodafone again a few days later and told them i was leaving for three, was asked a few times about if i knew how good Three's mobile range was (i replied saying its very good around my city), and just explained to the guy that I wanted to go sim only and didn't want to pay any more than £10 a month. Took 30 minutes, but the guy managed to get me this deal:

    - £10 a month on 12 month contract
    - 300 Minutes any time/network minutes
    - Unlimited Texts
    - 500MB Data

After the 12 months the price/plan wont change. It is slightly less minutes than Tesco, but atleast I know I wont be charged through the roof if I do go over my allowance. The £10 Three deal did seem good though and was very tempting.

I know i still had to buy the hand set, but after 18 months it means i will have paid £270 instead of £360 on a £20 a month contract!

Thanks for posting this- this is exactly the kind of deal i'm looking for. My contract is up at the beginning of April, how does the retentions process work?

Can I phone up now and threaten to quit or does it have to be a month before my contract is due up e.g. start of March. I've always had PAYG phones and this is my first contract, I'm unsure on how this all works.

    Thanks.

Next Friday, I can call and ask for my PAC code as my contract expires on March 18th.

Is this the best approach or should I go in asking for a deal? I'd like an iPhone 4 with best possible deal, but would consider a HTC Desire Z.

If I got a good deal on the Desire Z, could I then sell the device and request an iPhone sim and then buy an IPhone 4 from Apple?

Also, I saw a SIM only tariff on 3, which contained tonnes of minutes, data and texts for £10. Will they likely match this for SIM free? As if so, the best deal for me is to take this and buy an iPhone 4 for free (unless they give a better deal as above).

If your contract expires on March 18th then you should already be able to call for an upgrade (something like 70 days before your contract ends).

It depends on what you want out of them. I don't think any of the operators give a good deal on the Iphone (I think apple prevents it), but you should be able to get some deals on android phones.

Call them up and say you want to leave. They proably will just say "ok" and start arranging your pac code. So you might need to call up a few times.

They matched the 3 £10 sim only deal for me, except for the data, but then i've never used over 500mb so that isn't a problem.

Yep, exactly right. I called Vodafone yesterday and selected the 'thinking about leaving' option and spoke to them. They won't match iPhone 4 offers I've seen on Orange and 3 as they have a better network than those two, far better suited to the iPhone than them and their costs reflect this. These offers were the same monthly cost, but with better data/minutes allowances and the iPhone cost only £70 as opposed to £140. I'm phoning for my PAC next week and will see what they say after.

I'd still accept SIM only for a tenner, as this would be the best overall deal. Or is it worth taking a deal on an HTC Desire Z, selling the phone and using that to buy an iPhone?
  • I've found Vodafone's network no different to O2's when i was with them, and i've recently had a Three sim data sim only card, and have actually fround their signal better in my house then Vodafone's. So don't really believe Vodafone's network is that noticable better.

I got the impression when I went to cancel that they don't generally give you the deals until you actually request your PAC code.

I wanted an IPhone before i got my HTC Magic (now 18 months old), but i am so happy I went with an android phone and will never consider an IPhone now. One of the major difference i've noticed compare to the app store (when using my ipod touch) is that the android store has so many more free apps. The HTC Desire Z does look a nice phone.
