Vodafone Retention Deals

Just got off the phone with vodafone this evening and the bloke at the other end confirmed what others had said in that the retentions deals are NOT for the full 18 months (or 12 if that was what you were after). They are only for 15 months.

why? Because you can upgrade up to 70 days before the end of your contract and so this if why it only applies for 15 months.

he also said all offers were only valid for a period of 24 hours- whether this was rubbish I don't know but he did admit that outbound team had more sway to offer me a good deal - I had previously been offered a N95 8gb free plus 250 mins and 100 texts for £15 pm. I was holding out for unlimited internet but it looks like they would not budge on that.
I was going to log-on and post exactly the same info that you posted!
I was also told that the retention contract that i agree to will run for 12 months BUT the actual reduced line rental would only run for 9 months but i could renegotiate lower or same rental in the 10th month.
So in effect what they are saying is that you pay your renegotiated lower rental for 9 months and then if you don't want to stay with them you would have to spend full line rental for the last 3 months.

I suppose that 9 month thing is there to entice you to stay with them for another 12 months - you would be agreeing to another 12 months with them after only 9 months! They did also say that because you renegotiate in the 10th month it would mean that even if you agree to stay with them for another 12 months you would still spend the full-whack non-reduced line rental in the final month! Weird, huh?

They also told me when i rang them back to accept the offer that had been offered to me previously that it actually expired after 24 hours but they were being nice to me and they let me have it. How kind! :rotfl:

The worse thing is the original guy who offered me the retention deal did not tell me the lower rental would be only for 9 months. He either forgot to or conveniently avoided the issue to get my custom.
I have found that vodafone do tend to have some really poor customer service assistants in their call centres. Most of them seem bored, badly trained, young and unhelpful. And some of the 'senior' ones in the Retention Depts have a habit of not sticking to what their other colleagues have previously offered you!

Hi had to laugh today, vodaphone phoned me up 12 days ago to ask me if i wanted an upgrade as i had just gone into my last 60 days, i said i wanted to wait till the tocco came out so he said that would be the 4th of july and he would phone me back then.

Anyways the tocco launched on vodafone yesterday 13th june so i thought i would phone up and ask them what it would cost, i am on £20 pm and i get 75 mins and 150 texts which i think is rubbish and i always go over and spend 25-27 per month so i told the lady that i would be willing to upgrade to 25pm and she offered me 150 mins and 500 texts which would suit me fine she then wanted to charge me £100 for the phone and put me on a 24 month contract well i explained i had already looked online at vodafone upgrade store and that said it would cost £55 for handset on £25 pm on a 18 month contract, and also that o2 was doing 200 mins 200 texts and handset for 14.99 and i could get 75 mins and 200 texts on t mobile and 19.99 for handset for £20 pm she basically said i couldn't. Anyways i said i would pay £20 for handset and £25 pm but on a 18 month contract which i thought was very reasonable, she went away and came back with £30 for handset but on a 24 months contract, i said this was unacceptable as it was worse than what i got offered online with vodafone she didn't say anything so i said i would wait for my contract to end and join o2 she said ok is there anything else i can help you with.

I think this was shocking i know it wasn't retentions it was me phoning for an upgrade but now i will have to wait 15 days or so till im in my last 30 days then go down the route of cancelling my contract and waiting for retentions to phone me up. Would anybody else have accepted this deal or done or said anything different to what i said, thankyou for your time!

Sent my cancellation letter last week requesting my Pac and phoned up yesterday to see if they have received it. I was informed that they had and have a cancellation date of 13th July. I was then asked what i wanted to stay, I explained that I am currently on 200 xnet mins, 250 txts, with roll over and stop the clock (12 mth contract) and they gave me a phone (Samsung Z720) and I was looking to stay on the same with another phone. I was told that they wouldnt be able to do it (i.e the discount and the phone) so I said thanks but no thanks. 30 mins later I got a call from Voda, I don't know what dept. it was as wife answered the phone before passing it to me.
I was again asked what I wanted, I said same contract with another phone as they were able to do this last year. To cut a long story short I picked the Samsung F490 and was told to hold while he spoke to a manager. After a couple of minutes he came back and said he could do it and I agreed to go ahead. Right at the end when he sumarised the contract cost was £25 + vat. I told him That I didn't want to go ahead as I am only paying £12.50 now. Just before I finished the call I again made a point of saying that I would stay on what I was on and he confirmed that he wouldn't send the phone out.
Imagine my surprise when we got a txt 10 mins later saying the phone would be dispatched on the 16th. I phoned up and protested at this underhand tactic and despite telling me how difficult it would be, they changed my contract back to £12.50.
I don't know whether it was outbound retentions tho, do they work on weekends ?
Be very careful when negotiating and double check what they say to you.

i think you did the right thing. just hang on for the two weeks, put in your end of contract letter, and then phone retentions. they should offer you a much better deal than upgrades.

I've been offered a SE K770 or Nokia 6300 on a 12 month Vodafione contract 500 mins and 100 texts for £15 a month - I'd be glad of anyone's opinions on how good this is?
  • Did you have the option of Stop the Clock?

    No, they didn't mention that...
  • Last year my deal was 250 minutes, STC, 225 text, no roll over, no new phone and another 12month contract all for £12.50.

I've had some cashback deals since then and they are difficult to compare when you are trying to ge the best price on your new contract. If you don't want another new phone then you could probably get that £15 further down or increase mins/text. Do you thk you will use all your 500 minutes? or is that way too many?

My negotiations was poor the otehr week, time for re-new my contract, but was too unrealistic, I had asked for same deal but with a N95 this time as I didn;t get a new phone last year. When told the answer was no, I told them to come back with another alternative, like cheaper deal or another phone and they couldn't come up with one. So to sum it all up, im just feel to leave with my PAC at home, but not recieved another phone call off them and seeing what E2save, three and phones4u has to offer.
