Phoned retentions today and got offered

    Samsung Galaxy S
    300 Mins
    Unlinited text
    500MB Internet
    Free Insurance
on 24 month contract for £29 a month and £97 upfront for the handset.

He told me I could then cancel the FREE insurance after the first month which would make the line rental £20 per month. I'm not too sure if to be leave this (been lied to in the past by vodafone) as the insurance is included FREE but if I cancel it later I will get £9 off ???? any one know if this is the case or are they trying to pull a fast one??

If the insurance can be canceled so i'm only paying £20 per month then that sounds like an ok deal although I really want an 18 month contract cos 24 months is way too long for a phone.

What do you think? I sill have untill end off December to wait untill my contract ends so will prob wait and see if I can get any better.
  • so now they have cancelled the upgrade due to not being processed properly and thye will honour the deal at a store if i can find stock in any
  • I've been reading the last few pages of this thread now and I'm confused.....

Do Vodafone actually have a stock of the HTC Desire HD phones? And if so does this mean they can offer deals on them?

I'm just out of contract now with Vodafone and my current handset barely works, having been with them for over 10 years I phoned about an upgrade on Friday evening. I'd seen a colleagues Desire HD and being very impressed with it I thought I'd upgrade to one myself. I spoke to someone from the Retentions team they offered me 300 mins, unlimited texts and 500MB Internet at £35 a month with a free handset.

I explained my colleague had purchased his through e2save and had a better deal at only £25 a month. The guy explained that he could only offer me the standard deal as per their website as they didn't actually have the phones in stock, when they did they might be able to do something. I'd noted that day that T mobile were offering a Desire HD, 300 mins, unlimited texts, 500MB internet for £25 a month which I explained to the chap on the phone, he again said he couldn't do a thing as Voda don't actually have the phones.

In the end I asked if it was possible to take my number with me if I took up the T mobile deal and he explained about a PAC code and that he'd request one for me. He did tell me I could wait a couple of weeks and phone back as Voda might be able to do something once they have the phones in stock but he couldn't guarantee that and I'm concerned about missing out on the T mobile deal.

After my long and rambling explanation....what I'm looking to find out is:
    - Is that correct that Vodafone cannot do deals on phones they don't have in stock? (I notice other people on this thread have deals a week ago and Voda didn't have stock then)
    - Does anyone think Voda will be able to offer me a HTC Desire HD with 300 mins, unlimited texts, 500mb internet at £25 per month? Is that realistic?

As I've said I've been with Vodafone for over 10 years, I've had some really bad service in that time, and I've had some really good service also. At times I've spent a considerable amount of money with them and at others just kept to my tarriff. For the last 10 months I've had numerous calls from them explaining that I'm a loyal customer and wanting to try and sell me this and that. If they can offer me the same deal as I can get as a new customer elsewhere then I'm happy to stay with them.

    Thanks, Paul
  • My current 12 month contract for £40 a month with 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb data with a free HTC Magic is due to end within 30 days. Has anyone been able to get either the HTC Legend or HTC Desire on a 12 month contract as I have chatted to an adviser online and called up the upgrades team today and said they don't do 12 month contracts anymore. The other option I told them I was thinking about was buying the phone myself and getting a sim only deal either rolling or 12 month commitment and I told them about tescos £10 a month rolling contract with 500 minutes unlimited texts and 500mb data but all they have offered me was what is on the website for new customers which is nowhere near as good as tescos. The upgrade adviser allowed me to give my 30 day notice and said my PAC code would be sent by text or someone would call me with it, without even offering me any discount. If Vodafone can offer me a competitive deal I am happy to stay with them as have not had a problem, if not then I will have to go elsewhere... what do you think the odds are of someone calling back and offering me the Desire or Legend on a 12 month contract or a big discount on their sim only deals?

Well got a call from vodafone yesterday asking me what they could do to make me stay and I told them how the upgrades team had said they can't do htc desire or legend on a 12 month contract or give me a discount on a sim only deal to make it competitive against tescos and all they said was yes that is right and they would make a note on my file... got my pac code through today so guessing vodafone won't be making me any kind of retention deal to stay with them and I will have to switch networks. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a code to unlock my htc magic and if vodafone will give me this for free?
  • Iv been with Vodafone for nearly 4 and a half years now and it seems to count for nothing, I am eligible for an upgrade and upon phoning was offered a deal which did not match my current one and also did not match other offers on the market. When I quoted other deals that I could get with other networks I was offered a something which was close to it, but still did not quite match it and also asked to pay £45 for the phone, when its free with other networks!!

When I said im unhappy with this and would reluctantly be forced to leave as a result, the Vodafone rep did not seemed at all bothered and just said to request your PAC code when you reach the last 30 days of your contract. Like I said I have been a loyal customer for years now, and whilst I would have preferred to stay with Vodafone as they have great network coverage and generally very helpful customer service, they dont seem at all bothered about losing another valuable customer.

Unfortunatly time with a network means nothing, it's monthly spend thats important come upgrade time.

If your a low spender it may not be worth Vodafones time to keep you.

Thats another thing im struggling to understand, my monthly spend is generally quite high, I do alot of work abroad but still need my phone, so most of my bills are 50-60+?

I was able to unlock my old N95 Black for free I think its something like after you've had the handset for 18months they'll do it for free, I can't remember exactly where I saw that though all I can be certain of is that at the time my N95 was 2.5 years old and it was free
