What's the deal with the Desire HD? Are existing customers at the back of the queue for this one?

A desire was the actual one I wanted but was told that there was no way that one could be done. Oh well.
    What did "cancellations" offer you?

I got a very nice email back from the web teams guy after posting on here, they have offered me the same 24mnth deal, with 600 mins, 500mb at £1 more than the guy on the phone! I appreciate the effort but have said no ta :)

Well, you guys deserve credit where it's due. But the main point I was conveying was that slick customer service skills are no good alongside the consistantly underwhelming deals you come up with.

Agree completely, everyone I have dealt with has been very nice but useless in being able to offer me any kind of 'upgrade' other than £1 off whats on the website for new customers.

I was offered a very good deal by the web retention team on monday, however the Samsung galaxy S was out of stock.

Can anyone from the web retentions team give an ETA of when this phone will be in stock again?

What did they offer you? I would give them a ring back and see if they reserve you one when they do come back in stock. It doesn't say they are out of stock online so you may get lucky.

hi i got offered the desire, for either

    1. 600mins/unl text/1gig 15mths £30 3mths £35 £30 for the phone

    2. 600mins/unl text/500 £30 18mths free phone

    3.300min/unl text/500 £25 18mth free phone

or the N8 on pre order

    600/unl/500 for £35 on 18mths

seems the deals are based on the online price minus £5 a month approx

so not great but better than a kick in the teeth

That's right, better than a kick in the teeth but nowhere near as good as the bog standard Vodafone sales line. Honestly "web team", what is going on here?

A few days ago I called them (the bog standard Vodafone sales line) and with minimal effort was offered 1200mins, unlimited sms, 750mb and a free Desire. All for £33 p/m on an 18 month contract. That's £12 discount p/m. What's more the normal "cancellations" department offer even better deals still.

So the web team, waving their lame £5 discounts around and proclaiming their deals as being the best is increasingly odd. As is everyone beating a path to their door.

Incedentally, like someone else here, I recently got a free Desire on a 12 month £17.50 contract (continuation of an old tariff) from the department 191 puts you through to when you say you are leaving.

So honestly, I don't think they really have any place on this thread giving the impression that they do. I'm sure they're very friendly, I'm sure they're good at making people think they're getting a special deal but the facts don't stand up to scrutiny.
