OK Espi, explain this for me
Phoned up this morning about a upgrade or getting my pac code as i am within the last 60 days of contract (would just need to pay 45 for it as my contract was a 35 a month 18 month one) to see what sort of deal i would get after being offered use of a frends 02 friends and family discount.
Also I was going to drop down to 300 or 400 minutes as sadly my mum passed away and that is were most of my minutes were used on the 700 minute contract.
I asked about the samsung galaxy S and the HTC desire (andriod base phones) on 300 or 400 minutes contracts. The guy at retentions and upgrades said there was no way they could offer me them on 20 pound a month contracts. he then offered me a HTC wildfire on the 20 pound a month contract and a 10 pound charge for the phone, so while on phone i done a google search and guess what, not only was the phone no were new as good as the other phone I was considering on vodafones website it was free on a 20 pound a month contract...
lol what made me laugh is the salesman was trying to get the extra 10 pound from me (ripping me off) and now I am expected to be happy and stay... I think not.. it made me that mad, despite him offering me the same free phone after i told him to check the vodafone site I am thinking of leaving now.
then I spot the same phone with 3 for 500 minutes 5000 texts and 5000 3 to 3 calls on 3 for 20 pound... while customer service on vodafone is generaly good, I only ever probably speak to them about twice a year if that so thats a no brainer.
Infact i was so annoyed I may write an article about it, can not believe the guy was trying to get an extra 10 from me, do these guys work on commission or something... grrr..
one annoyed soon to be X vodafone customer..0 -
How did you guys even get to speak to the Upgrades or Retentions Dept?!
My husband has spent 2 hours yesterday, and most of this morning trying to get hold of one of these departments - and keeps getting passed from Call centre to Call centre; I think the last count on the most recent phone call was 21 people so far?!!
He first called Vodafone on Wednesday & was told he could upgrade after losing his phone - he was promised a call back from Upgrades, but never got one. On Friday morning he called himself, & actually managed to speak to someone, who offered him a £39.99 Samsung Galaxy S / 300mins / Unlimited Texts / 500mb data for £25. DH said he'd think about it, & again he was promised a call back which never happened.
Last night he checked his Vodafone account online, & noticed that his 'upgrade date' has mysteriously changed to February 2012 (previously had been October 2010). After speaking to 8 different people he established that *someone* had upgraded him to the £25/month Sim-only package without his request. This was cancelled after speaking to another couple of people.
After this he spoke to Upgrades again, who refused to honour the deal offered the day before. They stated that they could only offer the same package for £30 per month! Again a callback was promised & not received.
Apart from the fact that other deals from T Mobile, Orange & Three are much more competitive than the deals offered by the Upgrades dept, Vodafone’s customer service is absolutely diabolical – DH is now seriously considering leaving Vodafone, as they clearly don’t value him as a customer & just aren’t competitive compared to other networks.
We've both been with Vodafone for over 10 years, but I suspect we might be going over to Orange imminently!
He's STILL on the phone now.....24th person.......& STILL hasn't got the Retentions dept!
Edited to say that he finally got through to Upgrades after 30 people, but still wasn't offered a competitive deal....£89.99 for Samsung Galaxy S (8Gb), 300mins / Unlimited Texts / 500mg data (24m) - £20/month.
- T-Mobile have a better deal through buymobilephones.net - same mins / texts / monthly cost / purchase price, but for the 16Gb Samsung Galaxy S with 1Gb data!
......Very disappointed with Vodafone!!0 -

DO NOT DEAL WITH "UPGRADES".
You need to deal with "RETENTIONS".
They are 2 seperate departments.
Upgrades are there to tie you to a new contract without giving much away. It is retentions who can offer the better deals.
If you are in the last 30 days of your contract, phone up vodafone and select or ask for cancellations.
When talking to cancellations they will ask you why you want to leave.
Tell them you are not happy with what upgrades have offered you.
They will ask you if they can take a look for you.( Their offer may be better OR worse than "UPGRADES" )
Let them take a look, and see if you like what they offer. Obviously if you like their offer then take it. If you don't, tell them what you are looking for, then see if they can match your request.
If you cannot come to an agreement with them, tell them that you will leave it, and ask them for your PAC number. "BUT" only if you are in the last 30 days of your contract.
After requesting your pac code, they will tell you that they will TEXT it to you in the next couple of days.
Upon receiving your code, leave it about a week or so, ( maybe less ) then you should receive a call from "RETENTIONS". This is when you should be able to negotiate your best deal, as this is the department who can be more flexible.
Don't forget, when you receive this call, "THEY HAVE CALLED YOU". Why????. Because they want to keep your business.
Please note, just asking for, and receiving your pac code, does not mean you have given notice to leave. It just means you have the required documentation, to give to a new mobile phone company, should you choose to do so within 30 days of asking for your code.
This is one of the best ways to get your best deal. If you do not like any offer at this stage, then you need to decide whether to stay or go.
I wish you all the best and hope I have been of help.

So I phoned back to take them up on the offer, as I missed the call on friday due to work, but surprise surprise they denied all knowledge of the offer and couldn't/wouldn't go near it, apart from the bog standard tariffs
Really hacked off!!0 -
I've just been offered an HTC Wildfire on a 12 month contact for £17.50 a month for 600 minutes, unlimited texts and internet, what do you think of this offer?0

Sounds about right for vodafone lately, they seem to be doing a good job of upsetting their customers! Tbh I'm impressed that you got that offer in the first place as that's loads better than what I was offered but I have finally managed to get my handset. It turned up on Wednesday afternoon, shortly followed by a txt from the manager I had spoken to the previous day advising that they still didn't have any handsets in stock and that he'd check again the next day, lol! They really don't seem to have a handle on things at all. Totally useless!0 -
Not really truly Retentions however having been a PAYG Customer of Vodafone for the past 9 years I have decided to upgrade to a contract with the HTC Wildfire.
Initially the best they said they could do was 300 Minutes 3000 Texts for £20 a month which tbh wasn't too impressive when I was quoted £15 a month for 500 minutes, 5000 texts, 1GB Data and 5000 3 to 3 Minutes in the 3 store nearby. So I said that it really wasn't a good offer and, after some towing and froing, I was offered the HTC Wildfire with 300 Minutes 3000 Texts and 1Gb Data for £15 a month which I was more than happy with as it meant I did not have to go through the hassle of getting my PAC etc to transfer the number. So I decided I would step back as I wanted to look at what cashback offers were avaliable online and double check that I wanted to go for this before deciding to phone Vodafone back. However I stupidly forgot to write down the operators name and so when I phones back and mentioned this they changed their tune saying that they couldn't possibly offer me this deal and there was no record of it.
Is there likely to be any way I can recover from my own stupidity and get that offer again?0 -
I had a similar experience with them back tracking, they called me out of the blue one day and offered me a second number for £10 per month on a SIM only deal with 600mins and unlimited text on a 40 day rolling contract. I said i would have a think and call them back, i think i was out shopping or something at the time and didn't really want to go through the whole set up thing in the middle of Sainsbury's.
When i called them a couple of days later, they completely changed their tune, instead they offered me 600mins, unlimited texts, SIM only for £15 per month on a 12 month contract. I argued the toss with them saying that i wanted what i was originally offered but the first guy i spoke to basically said there was no way on earth i would have received that offer, i knew i was right because i'd jotted it down on the back of my shopping list! I asked to be put through to his manager who eventually agreed to £10 per month with the first month free on a 12 month contract.
Needless to say when my bill came in i had been charged for the first month, after calling to complain and spending an hour on the phone and eventually having a manager call me back after listening to the previous call he agreed to refund the charge for the first month.0
