Just tried getting the HTC Desire upgrade, they wanted £100 for the handset to stay on my current 600mins/unlmtd texts and to charge me an extra £5 for unlimited internet taking it to £35/month. pfft, looks like I'm jumping ship, bye voda.

Just been offered the following at a cost £18.00 per month for full term of contract:

    Sony Ericsson Vivaz for free.
    300Mins.
    Unlimited Texts.
    Unlimited Internet.
    24 month contract.

Fairly happy with this deal, although on reflection the X10 may have been more desirable phone but doubt I'd get it for £18.00 per month. Also was offered 600Mins for £20.00 but as I never hit 300mins it was a mute point.

Here is my story for what it's worth:

From retentions I managed yesterday to get after much discussion:
    Desire handset for £80
    £20/mth
    300 mins
    Unl texts
    Unl internet (well, 500 gb)
    24mths

which is better than the original offer of £25/mth for 24 mths and £30 for the handset.

However, I then saw wickychoo's post which has the same deal but a FREE handset. So I emailed the Voda Web team today and asked them why this may be the case and if it meant having to ask for a PAC code before getting the best deal. The reply I got was this:
"Thanks for your email to Vodafone about upgrading to the HTC Desire.
Web Relations are able to offer customers upgrade offers. We can't offer the package at £20 a month with the phone free of charge on the 24 month agreement. We could offer the phone free of charge if the monthly package is charged at £25 a month.
This would be the best deal that we would be able to offer.
    Best Wishes"

    I then replied to thus:
"Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Could you then explain how the person mentioned (wickychoo) managed to get the free handset on £20/mth? I might add that you are the first representative from Vodafone who has admitted that free handsets ARE available at £25/mth. Everyone I spoke with yesterday - at least 5 people - all said that I would have to pay something towards a handset at any plan under £30/mth. So you see the lack of consistency here.

I would really like an explanation as to why this person got their handset for free and I am being asked to pay £80. Please don't send me a short, pat answer. Please send me a reasoned reply that actually goes some way to explain how this could happen and why, if one customer (and presumably others) get this deal, I cannot.

Furthermore, the deal I arranged yesterday is not yet signed as I am going away for a week. It will be instigated in a week's time so I can still decide to get my PAC number and leave, something that I am now probably going to do as it seems to be the only way to get a good deal from yourselves or of course, another provider.

I look forward to your reply.
    "

    This was the 'detailed' reply:
"Thanks for coming back to me.

Without being able to access that person's account details I would be unable to check the offer that they received.

If you look back through the pages on the Money Saving Expert thread you will see a presence by Web Relations. We try to help customers with issues and also offer to assist with upgrades.

The members of the Web Relations Team do not receive any commission on any upgrades, so we aim to offer the customer the best possible deal on an upgrade that we can.

The offer that we made to you via email is the best offer that Web Relations is able to make.

I hope this answers your questions.

    Best Wishes"

No real answers to my questions, complete avoidance of the real subject matter and no aparent intention of actually trying to help.

Thanks web team, that's the best you can do? I guess I'm off to T-Mobile then.

Got a pretty decent deal with Vodafone without too much fuss.

    HTC Desire

    24 months at £25 a month.

    Phone cost is £5.

    300 minutes.
    Unlimited internet
    Unlimted txts

The only catch was because it was such a good deal i had to agree to 1 month trials of insurance and downloading music so he could put it through at a fiver.

Need to cancel these before the 8th May.

Really happy with the deal and if the reviews are to be believed il be getting a really good phone.

You can get the Desire on 300mins 300texts unlimited internet for £25 on a 18 months contract here:

    http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/HTC/b509/n447/p31043.aspx#tabsAnchor

That also includes a free flexible booster - a choice from unlimited landline calls, unlimited texts etc - it can be altered every month

    more about it here: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/boosters/

You'll also get £30 cashback if you go via topcashback.

so the contract would cost you £420 (23.33 a month for 18 months

where as what vodafone offered you would cost you: £605!!

Its the best i can get.

Orange and t-mobile have terrible coverage in my area so they were never an option.

When i went with Vodafone last time round i got £120 cashback so not too fussed about getting cashback somewhere else.

And also Vodafone can be lenient in ending 24 months contracts early provided you stay with them.

So all in all im happy with that.:j

Having already been offered a free Sony X10 with Vodafone for £20/24m (although wasnt sure on the handset and had about 5 minutes to make my mind up according the guy..) I left it.

I had time today to have a serious look into new contracts. Interested in the Desire and saw a lot of places were offering decent £25pm deals I thought id give a quick call to retentions..they offered me lowest £30 a month and that was it (available to new customers). So, anyway, ill be off on the 22nd.
