Just got offered the following by the web relations team:

    12 month SIM only deal
600 mins, unlimited texts and internet, vodafone passport.
£10/month for the first 9 months, rising to £20 for the final three (altohugh I can upgrade in this time).
    I accepted.
just wanted to urge you to check you can upgrade then....I was told I could upgrade on 27th October and after then the contract price will double. I checked online and it said to upgrade in December....When I was on the phone to them I mentioned this and they told me there is no way I would be able to uprgade without paying fees before the December date and they had no ideas why I had been told the 27th Oct
i said well thats what I was told and he (apparently!!!) extended my half price deal until the 'real' uprgade date

Worth checking for anyone who has been told their contract will go up, but they can upgrade to avoid paying it
    HTH
  • To the person who asked about obtaining the PAC code. Ask them for it and they will send it to you. Unfortunately they wont ask any questions they'll just send it as they're not wanting existing customer's custom like they used to.

    Hi all.

Just a quick point of view.

I do not think you will get a good deal when you *UPGRADE*.

Upgrade is normally renewing your contract to a new tariff in the final 3 months.

This is when you get offered their NORMAL deals.

To receive their *BEST DEALS*, you need to be in the last month of your contract.

As I understand it, you can ask for your PAC number at anytime, but if you leave before the end of your contract, you will be penalized.

The way to do it without penalty, is to give 30 days notice 30 days before your contract ends.

Just phone them up and tell them you want your PAC number.

They will ask you why you want to leave.

You tell them that the *UPGRADE OFFER* if you had one (normally made in the last 3 months) was not good enough.

They will tell you that they will try to see what they can do.

If you don't like their offer, tell them you are not keen on it, but you will think about it and that you will compare it with T-mobile, 02 and orange.

BUT tell them you STILL want them to send you your PAC number.

You will receive your PAC number by text within the next couple of days.

Wait about a week or so and you should then get a call from ***RETENTIONS*** not *UPGRADES*.

This is when you can try for your best deal.

You don't have to take their first offer, (unless you like it) just tell them it is not what your looking for or as good as you hoped. Normally their 2nd offer is a good one.

Even tell THEM what YOU want, but don't push it too far that you can't work out a deal with them.

DO NOT FORGET IT IS ***RETENTIONS*** WHO GIVE THE BEST DEAL.

Be nice and friendly with them and hopefully it will come good.

    Good luck,

    Albert.:):)

i'm thinking of changing to a sim only 30 day thing. are there any con's about these?

got two contracts out of contract, wanting to reduce cost until i can fund for an iphone, which i will probably do via orange friends and family with 20% tariff discount.

however, if i changed to a sim only 30 day, can i request PAC and move, or can I upgrade staying on vodafone?

    Update

I recieved an e-mail from the web team today, even though ive been with them 8 yrs, had more than one contract with them, spent £1000's and in total have only upgraded twice in those years, they still didn't want to offer me anything anywhere near decent. Vodafone just doesnt seem to care about their customers anymore, I've noticed that with both the customer services ive recieved in the past year and this years upgrade fiasco. Even looking at this forum, previously a vodafone rep would come everyday, now we rarely see them here, how many days has it been since a rep has been on to offer help?Just shows how much they care these days doesnt it?!

Looks like its goodbye Vodafone and hello o2.

I have waited over a week to get a call about upgrade then they decide to call me at 8.30am when im dioing 70mph on the motorway on the way to work!!!! Aurghhhhh
Same thing has happened to me 3 times:
    1. On a train (got cut off and they did not call back)
    2. Web team whilst driving (left the same message as you)
    3. At work, got to the call, but there was silence/ was in the process of hanging up
The problem is the number of days they wait between calls.
The more they wait, the more Three looks tempting - way better standard deals!

it appears retention isn't one of the main goals at the moment, probably finding new customers on higher rates is more worth while, shame really
  • I just got an upgrade of an iphone for £90 on their £35 a month deal. In hindsight maybe I should have haggled and was now planning on returning it but from what you are all saying, it sounds like theres not much point?

Unfortunately Vodafone don't drop the price on Iphones, so not much point returning it in hope of getting a better deal.
