    I've been out of contact for a few months; I'd been waiting for a certain handset before upgrading. I was on the Vodafone 'Businesstime 200' package (200 inclusive minutes) along with £2.55 half prices extras for a bit of data and some text messages. My latest bill was a hefty £35.05 inc. VAT and I hardly make a dent in to the inclusive minutes each month. So I was looking for a reduction in the inclusive minutes, but an increase in mobile internet data.

    So I called up retentions to 'cancel' to see how far I get.

    One tip - always look up their competitor's prices, it makes you sound much more credible. I'd found a better price for my situ with TMobile, in the range of £23. After bounding around sim-only prices for a moment (I was trying to get the handset upgrade as well) I was offered a 'hidden' retentions price plan as follows:-

    * 75 minutes per month
    * 50 texts per month
    * 120Mb Internet usage per month
    * Handset choice of Nokia: 6300, E51. Sony Ericsson: K530i, V640i, K770i, W880i. Blackberry: 8100. PDA’s: Vodafone V1415.
    * 18-month contact term

    Price: £17.50 / per month inc vat.

    This allocation is much more suited to my needs and less than half the price of the plan I'm on at the moment.

    Now... about that 18months contact... I'm aware that in the next year, there is likely to be lots of lovely new handsets on the market to challenge the iPhone. The standard, published plans often cost you more for the 12-month terms (either in the monthly 'rental' plan or as an extra cost for the handset). So I enquired about the

    ME: How much would this plan be per month for a 12-month term?
    VODA: Oh, the price would be exactly the same; it's the cost of the handset that changes.
    ME: So how much extra for the Nokia E51 (the handset I'm after) on 12-month?
    VODA: That would be the same - £17.50 per month plan, free Nokia E51 handset.

    Ahha! Not only would they re-sell me an expensive, standard price plan for an upgrade (given the chance), they'd also try to lock me into an 18-month contact for this handset, at no benefit to me!

    Anyway, all's fair in negotiations. I get a better deal and they keep me as a customer. I wouldn't *want* to move to Tmobile, I've been happy to date with Voda's customer service.
  • Vodafone will only offer me a better deal if i take out a new contract, they won't offer me a good enough retention deal meaning i lose my number, any ideas guys?

    They've probably got an automatic dialler, with a glitch. Call up Vodafone and speak to the retentions team and just tell them you got their missed calls, you do not want a phone from them, and ask them to take you off their dialler list.
    I accept no liability if you chose to rely on my advice.

    I have recently applied for a Vodafone phone and didn't get accepted (despite a near-perfect credit score with Experian, I'm not yet registered on the electoral roll at my new address) ... but now I keep getting these phone calls too. I googled it and it's definitely an automated system. I would definitely ring their customer services team and ask them to take you off the list.
    LBM 1: May 06 - £16,900 :eek: . LBM 2: Jan 08 -£29,500 :eek: :eek:

  • Hi

    I have just cancelled my 12 month Vodafone contract as I am entitled to do and as part of the cancellation I was put through to a department who tried to sell me another contract. But my circumstances are now different so I passed. I thought that was the end of it.

    But now I am getting endless attempts to contact me from a number 08080000133 which from searching is Vodafone retention team (or as they have become known in our house hold the "harassment" team).

    I am literally getting 40-50 calls a week - it is an auto system and I answered the first few not knowing who it was but was cut off. I am just ignoring them now but they are still coming.

    Anyone any idea what I can do re this as it is becoming very annoying as to the number and persistance of these calls. it is really putting me off considering Vodafone when my situation changes that I need a new contract.

    David

    Hi David,

    I'd like to apologise for the amount of calls you've received from our retention team especially if the line is silent when you answer.

    If you contact us via email by completing Vodafone's Online Contact Forum we can look into getting you removed from the dailing list. Please include as much details as possible so that we can access your account and also include the code FIT135 to ensure to email is directed to the forum team.

    As soon as we receive your email we can look into this for you.

    Thanks for you time

  • Hi all;

    Last night the main button on my mobile fell off! I have put it back in place with some superglue which will work for a while, but it's really time for me to get a new one.

    I'm currently on a 200 minute 18 month contract which began in December 2006. I know that I'm within the contract renewal period as the update page on the Vodafone website allows me access.

    However, what I'd really like to know is do the potential deals offered to me get better the closer I get to contract expiry? I'd hate to call up this week and get lumbered with some rotten tarriff only to discover that if I waited two weeks I'd better The Most Awesome Tarriff Ever.

    If, by any chance, there are some Vodafone staff here, would anyone care to send me a message and maybe negotiate something? Do Vodafone staff work on commission...? ;)

    Ta.
  • Does anyone know if you get a better deal if you already have 2 contracts with vodaphone.

    My son is with 02 and the reception he gets where we live is not great at all so as my and hubby have vodaphone i want to switch him. Would i get a great deal for a third contract or just the normal.

    I suppose the only way ill find out is by ringing them and asking. Just wish my son could decide on a phone. Oh to be 15 again.:confused:

    Just a quick report back. I was hoping for more features (including mobile internet) for less money, and pointed out the offer for new customers on their website which gives 500 minutes and infinite texts for £25. In the end, it was better for me to stick to the same tarriff that I currently have which the 'promotions department' let me keep for £20 and £15 for the first six, saving me £210 over the 18 months. Crazy! Was also given my pick of the mobiles, though not the very latest ones.

    Well worth sticking on the line - I spoke to the fella for about 45 minutes in total and had a chat about videos of phones being destroyed on YouTube and how he got caught speeding that morning. Play nice and they'll be nice back. :)
