Sorry guys... it seems you can't get the deals by going direct to mobiles .co.uk
I'm conscious that I don't want to get accused of spamming here... I have no affiliation with any mobile phone sites, I just want to find myself a good deal and maybe help others do so too.
I found them by going to a website called best-mobile-contracts... should be easy to find on Google.
If you search for the HTC Hero on there and then when it lists the deals, (ignore the prices it states on that website) click through to any of the deals on mobiles.co.uk
Then it should add the deal to your basket at the prices I listed previously.
PLEASE anyone who goes for this a) take plenty of screen prints and print T&C's to cover yourself and b) report back and let us know if you have gone for it and how you get on.
M
EDIT:
Looks like the deals are changing / being withdrawn / getting sold out...
The Vodafone 24m @ £12.50 deal (300 mins, unlimited texts) is still there, plus a deal on Orange now 18m @ £20 a month (900 mins, unlimited texts)
Hi Morph,
Have you gone for any of the deals yourself yet? Will you be keeping your phone number or getting a new one?
I've looked across a few of the cashback sites now, phones4you, e2save etc... but not seen anything that really catches my eye on the hero or the magic, plus am thinking about the extra hassle of cashbacks going wrong.
I'm tempted to just get the iphone with o2 grrr 18 months at 45 quid isnt my idea of moneysaving though lol :eek:0 -
Hi isayhello,
I am definitely hoping to get a new phone one way or another. I have marked in my calendar Monday 9th November (3 weeks today) as the date I can ring up and give notice to end my current contract.
After that i'll turn down the inevitable rubbish offers that retentions offer me (on calls 1,2 and 3) until either a) they give me a decent offer or b ) I just get to within about a week of my 30 days notice ending.
If option b is what it comes to then I will probably get the Hero on one of the tariffs I listed above and port my number across.
That's 6 weeks away though, so hopefully there will be some even better Hero tariffs out by then with newer phones coming out (new HTC Leo, iPhones on other networks, Motorola Dext etc). I may even end up preferring one of the aforementioned phones to the Hero by then.
Absolute backup plan is to port my number to Virgin on one of the 30 day notice contracts @ £10 a month until I find the right deal.0 -
Anyone hoping to get a good deal on the HTC Magic, dream on.....
Someone posted a while back that they got a Magic for £17.50 per month on 12 month deal with minutes, texts and unlimited web.
Since they refused to tell me their number (their choice which is fine) so I could prove to Vodafone the deal existed, I contacted Vodafone Company Representative on here and got the following from one of her colleagues:
Good Morning MORPH3US,
Many thanks for getting back in touch with your details. I've had a good look into the price plan discounts and the phone you mention. Unfortunately, the HTC Magic is quite a premium device so being on a 12 month only contract and with a discount on the tariff, I'm afraid realistically the device wouldn't be free as Vodafone would actually stand to lose a substantial amount of money.
To give you a better idea of the costs involved, the Magic is £335 SIM free on Pay as You Go. At £17.50 per month, the contract would only cost £210 on a 12 month agreement. Take into account the amount of free minutes, texts and data on top and I'm afraid it's simply not something we do. I'd urge your friend to double check the agreement they have as it sounds like there may have been some confusion.
If you were looking to get the handset, you can obtain it free on 12 month agreements at £45 per month and above or on the £17.50 contract you have mentioned with the phone at £272.05. Have a look at the HTC Tattoo as this is a bit more of a budget handset if you're not looking to increase the cost but still like the idea of an Android phone.
Let me know if you have any further questions or if you'd like a call.
Kind regards
I replied, obviously not happy that he was saying the only way I could get a free Magic was on a £45 per month contract when I knew I could get one for £33 per month (after cashback) from dialaphone...
It annoys me why Vodafone charge more selling direct (even as a retention to a loyal customer) than they do selling through third parties who can add on their cut and still sell for less.....
That e-mail brought the following reply:
Good afternoon MORPH3US,
Thanks for getting back in touch. I'm sorry if you were disappointed by the information I provided in my email this morning, I sincerely didn't wish to offend or upset you. I'm afraid we have strict business guidelines to work within and as pointed out in the figures I mentioned I'm afraid the deal you quoted wasn't a financially sound one. Is there any particular reason you would only be looking for a 12 month contract as longer terms do provide you with much better deals and future upgrades in the long run?
As we're not a sales team, I can only go off the retention figures myself which is why I did the handset quotes at the lowest they would themselves. If you feel you have indeed found deals via third party of better value with the cash back and claim schemes, then I'm very sorry that I cannot match them. I do recognise that you are a customer with us but given the current market, there is unfortunately decreasing differences between new connection deals and upgrade offers across the board. We do however differentiate ourselves from other networks by providing phenomenal coverage across most of the UK and a world class customer service experience; the eForum of which is one such extension of this.
If there's anything further I can do in future or if you need help further down the line please don't hesitate to let me know.
Kind regards,
My highlighted bits there made me smile (to stop me getting annoyed).
Surprise surprise they are trying to get people on to 18 or even 24 month contracts because they "provide you with much better deals"... NO, what they provide VODAFONE with is the ultimate tie in so that their client can't leave after 12 months.
The other bit about "due to market conditions" (which are?) there are decreasing differences between new customer and retention contracts?!?! What a joke. Have they never heard that its harder to gain new customers than it is to keep current ones....
Sorry for the rant... looks like i'll be off to another network....0 -
1st choice is the n97. I logged into the vodafone site to check for an upgrade and it says im eligible for one. Anyway on my current £25 a month they want £264.89 up front
I suggest trying to add unlimited internet into the package as that would allow you to make full use of the N97's capabilites.0 -
I am now in my 70 days to upgrde.
My contract is 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet for £25 a month.
On a 12 month contract the only phone i have been offered that i would be interested in is the Samsung Blade.
On 18 months i am offered the Nokia 5800 or the HTC Tattoo.
Any of these deals sound ok?0 -

Way way too early. Once you get within the last 1-15 days, thats when the deals will start rolling through.0 -
hawkwind, if you don't mind cashback deals you can get a lot cheaper...
Couldn't find the Samsung Blade, but Nokia 5800 as example... 700 mins, 3000 texts, 18 months = £11.67 a month after redemption. Doesn't include data but usually £5 per month so £16.67 is still nearly £10 a month cheaper.0 -
Thanks rash.m2k and MORPH3US.
I know i still have some way to go before my contract is up but i have had some of fantastic deals in the past without leaving it until the last minute, i suppose sometimes you just get the right person.
I did not think the deal was too bad for 12 months considering the phone 600 minutes unlimited texts and internet.
But if you think i can get a much better deal by holding out then i guess i will.
I am not really looking into cashback deals thanks MORPH3US, thanks for looking into this for me though
Thanks to the both of you for taking the time to reply.0 -
Could someone please tell me quite how you go about speaking to the retentions team?
do i just phone vodafone like normal, tell them my contracts min 18mth term has ended (it actually ended in July, but ive had alot on my plate) and ask what i can get, then complain its not as good as o2?
Or do i have to actually ask to leave and request a pac code before they put me through?
This might seem daft, but i dont wont to actually go through the hassel of leaving vodafone, so dont wont my bluff called!

happyhunter - If you would like me to check on any part of your account for youor if you have any queries, feel free to get in touch with me by sending an email from the Contact Us form with WRT135 in the subject line. Make sure you inlcude link to your post and your username along with your details.
isayhello - If you have still not been contacted by retention we are more than willing to help. Drop us an email using the Contact Us form and include in the subject line the code MMM135. If you include your username and a link to your posts we'll be able to help you faster.
rea11314 - PAC numbers can't be used to port into the same network. So if you're a Vodafone customer already you can't request a PAC code and use it to sign up for a deal online. It won't be able to complete. If you get in touch with us following the intrructions above given to isayhello we'll look into what offers are available to you.
Lester - If you follow the instructions given to isayhello above we'll look into this for you.
All the best
Kirsty
