Vodafone have changed they way they do retention deals, it's no longer based on "Reinvestment Value" but rather profit.

You can't ask for stupid none profit deals anymore, as it's unlikely you'll get them. So, Matt, you're probobly going to have to sup it up.

Ahh, its amazing how speaking to the right people gets you what you want.

Spoke to a very helpful lady today ( not from retentions team ) but more of a customer services dept, after taking the matter into my own hands instead of waiting for their outbound retentions to phone!!

Asked why I couldnt have the same deals as I was getting with all my other lines ( 600 mins unl txts for £17.50 with any phone of my choice...) and was told what phone I would like!

I then said the Samsung Jet, she looked on the computer to see if she could help me, and guess what.... BINGO.

    Soooo now have:

    Samsung Jet
    600 mins
    Unl txts
    18 month contract

£17.50 per month. Will receive the handset tomorrow.

She even sent me an email to confirm what she had offered me after the phone conversation, because of previous confusion with a previous upgrade!

    Thanks Voda!

I think it's fantastic you can get good deals, and don't get me wrong I love saving a bit of money and I monitor my finances down to the last penny. Eventually Vodafone will crack on about the fact you're not really bringing them any money and show you the door :P

Thanks for your concern, but I really dont think they will. If they were to be like that, then they would not have gave me the deal in the first place.

Anyway, of course they make profit. Im sorry but Vodafone no way pay £300 for a handset because they buy them in bulk. I would say cost price on a Samsung Jet is roughly £100 - £150 quid.

I'm fed up with the muppets, twice I have asked for PAC code, twice I was given a deal of £14.87 pm x 18 mths for a Nokia 5800 (free) and both times, once the phones arrived they have changed the contract, the first time to 24 mths, the second time they sent me an invoice for £50 for the handset. I wouldn't mind but the deal I agreed to isn't even that good for 100mis 500txts compared to what others have got. needless to say it is being returned again.
  • I was paying £15 for 125 mins + 250 SMS + STC + Passport for 9 months in 12 then reverting to £21.27 at month 10.
Called them to renegotiate at month 10 and ended up with the same deal (with no phone) for £9.79 for the full term of a further 12 month contract. I had them email me the details of what had been agreed to avoid any subsequent wrangling. Better may well be available but suits me!

I know in my position I have 6 phones with them that all end at the same time, giving me quite a large bargaining tool, and I go through this retentions dealing issue each time all of the contracts come up. It normally takes them about a week of continuous calls to me with various deals before we finally agree on something.

    .

Why do you have 6 phones with them? I normally have two contracts in my name, one for me and one for DD, while OH has his own.

Just wondering if I'm missing some money making thing by having six contracts.

Basically myself, OH, 3 kids and mother-in-law each have a phone. They are all effectively on individual contracts, and are all linked under 'My Vodaphone' on the web and I pay just the one bill for everything. So I'm not really sure if Vodaphone class them as 6 separate contracts or just one big one. I know if I've had a problem I can discuss any one of them over the phone.

When the contract has been up in the past, either I have asked for a PAC code for each, or Vodaphone have contacted one of us direct in the past offering a better deal. Eventually, Vodaphone are directed towards me to deal on everyone's behalf.

They key thing is that all of the contracts finish on the same day. So it's pretty much like anything else – if you buy in bulk, you can often get it cheaper. In my case, Vodaphone have always been good to me with deals because I have been a long term customer with them for many many years and I have a lot of phones with them.
