I got a call from vodafone retentions on wednesday after asking for my PAC code.

The deal we agreed to was 500 min, 100 text, free internet + Nokia 5800 all for £15 a month for the duration of an 18 month contract.

They also asked me if I wanted the same on another line I have with them which was due for an upgrade, so I agreed to that too.

When the contracts arrived in the post, they had given me the deal for a discounted £16 a month for 15 months after which I pay £30 for the remainder.

I called them up to get it sorted but they weren't having it (telling me the deal that I'd 'claimed' to agree to was impossible) and also told me they didn't have a recording of the call. My second upgraded contract was previously on another £15 a month deal which I asked to get reverted back to, but they said they couldn't do that also. If I reverted, the discount on that deal would no longer apply and I'd have to go on £30 a month contract for the remainder.

In essense I've been screwed, so I advice you all be extra careful with this...

I'd appreciate any advice from you all on how I can at the least get my contract reverted back to what I was on originally. Vodafone customer service haven't been helpful at all...

This is annoying but i could upgrade my phone today before my 12month contract ends in august. Online deals are rubbish so called customer services, i told them that if i signed up with virgin media i could get £15/month for the nokia 5800 with 200 mins 50 txts because i've been a customer for ages with them. However they weren't budging at £20/month for 18months and didnt seem to mind if i left.. Has anyone got any advice on this, should I leave them in search for a better deal now? I mean I think i'm on an ok contract now (75 mins + VP + Stop the clock + w880i for £13/month x 12 mth contract).. Whats the best deal people have had with them when threatening to cancel..Could I cancel, keep my number, resign up with them via quidco and get a better deal? Sorry for all the questions, but thanks in advance..

I've had similar problems. I wanted to upgrade from 75m 75tx at 7.99 a month. I wanted an andriod phone, and was offered 100m 100tx + internet £25 p/m for 2 years. I changed my mind as I didn't want to be locked in for 2 yrs. So after much haggling I agreed to a nokia 5800 300m unlimited tx + internet for £20 per month over 18 months. The paperwork arrived and it stated £25 per month for 2 years. I called (yet again) and they refused to move. I've had the nokia for a week, but I'm sending it back and asked for my PAC on Wednesday. I've recieved my returns bag, and will send back the phone tomorrow AM. No sign yet of my PAC - I'll give them a week (until Wednesday) and chase. I'm looking at a new contract with T-Mobile web and walk (I'll port my number) 12 months, nokia 5800 300m 200tx +1GB internet allowance £35 per month but with 11 months half price rental (by cashback) making the effective price £18.55 per month. I've had enough shenanigans and lengthy calls with Voda, so off I go!

From past posts and personal experience, you should be able to get the htc magic with 600 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet for £25 per month or the same package with the Nokia 5800 for £20 per month, both on an 18 month contract.

As I knew beforehand that I wanted the htc magic for £25 per month, when requesting my PAC I was asked why I was looking to leave Vodafone and I said that I’m after a htc phone and I’ve seen a cash-back deal with mobiles.co.uk for the htc touch diamond on o2 for £27.60 per month. That was when I was told that Vodafone have a similar phone, the htc Magic, which they could offer me for £30 per month. I politely said that was a little more than I was looking to pay as I can get the o2 deal for only £27.60 and asked them to send me my PAC.

Then the next day the person called me from the outbound retentions department giving me my PAC code and they also asked me why I was leaving, and rather than say I’ll stay if I’m offered XYZ (or in my case the htc magic for £25 per month), I just told them I had found a cheaper deal with o2 (check www.compareyourmobile.com for the kind of deals available with other networks) for the htc phone and also told them that when I’d called to request my PAC code I was offered the htc magic for £30 per month (or Nokia for £25 per month), however the deal I’d found with o2 was still cheaper. This is when I was offered either the htc magic for £25 of the Nokia 5800 for £20 per month.

Remember don’t demand a certain deal/package when speaking to the outbound retentions department, but rather find a similar deal on another network beforehand (be it a cashback deal or not) and when they ask why are you looking to leave Vodafone, then tell them that you are moving to o2 (or other network) as you can get XYZ for only x amount per month and then wait for the offer. This way you are much more likely to get the kind of deal you are looking for rather than saying from the outset that I’ll stay if you offer me XYZ or my friend was offered XYZ for x amount per month and I want the same deal etc.

A new customer can get the htc magic on the same package for £28.33 per month (from Phones 4 u, going through Quidco £30) or the Nokia 5800 for £20.28 per month (from Vodafone, going through Quidco £90). So Vodafone should be able to round both them figures down to retain existing customers.

So to recap, know what you want beforehand, however don’t ask for it outright but rather do your homework in advance by finding a similar deal with another networks and then wait to be ‘offered’ the deal you always wanted ;)

Did it take alot of negotiating or did you ask and you received?

What tariff were you on previously and do you think that had anything to with it?

this was the same deal as last year, so it is a bit easy to get the same. Of course you need to discuss this deal with outbound deapartment, otherwise you cannot get it..:A

When did they offer you this deal, and was this just before your contract ended? Also what did you say to them, did you threaten to leave etc..?
