Phoned retentions after reading every single post and got the following deal:
HTC Magic Free (And free postage)
600 minutes
Unlimited texts
500MB internet
12 month contract
£24.99 a month
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! :beer:0 -
im trying to upgrade from 125mins/250txts/stc/passport for £17.50 per month
i want :
nokia 5800 (free)
100 mins
500 txts
18 months
for £15 with no insurance, i would accept no free texts if that was possible, and a full £15 for 18 months with no last 3 months at a higher price
do you think this is possible?, i have started the ball rolling by calling 191 who said no, and then i rang again and asked for PAC and what he said amounted to if none of the other major suppliers were offering such a deal then he couldn't either.
all im asking for is a discount of £5 a month from a new customer deal, and im a long standing customer who pays!
anyone any tips or advice for me, judging by this thread it seems the tactic is ask for PAC and wait for them to call.
im quite prepared to cancel as im a low user and a sim only deal with 02 is tempting.
thanks0 -

Your present deal is exactly the same as mine, except that I pay £20 a month - £2.50 per month extra!
My son actually has the phone but the contract is in my name, as will the new one be. I called into one of their shops a few weeks ago to ask what upgrade I could have and they said they would call me. They ended up ringing my son even though I had left them my contact numbers and my son is not allowed to do anything like upgrades etc!
I am now thinking that I will ask for the PAC, although it is too early yet, and see what happens then. My son hasn't definitely decided which phone he wants yet. It will probably be the Nokia 5800 or the Samsung Ultra Tocco, although we have been told we can't have the Samsung without paying more and/or having a longer contract - we'll see!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

Tell the retention about the following deal on TMobile Combi 15, which gives you 100mins and 100texts at 15quids per month. You need to negotiate a little for more texts but that shouldn't be a problem. Worst case, switch to Tmobile on the following deal with the possibility of 5months redemption & quidco.

So, after getting a good deal through retentions (as below), I checked online to see if the £5 credit had been applied.
It hadn't, and the monthly cost on screen was £29.79.
On the fourth attempt to call retentions (and having been on hold for a total of around 50 minutes), finally spoke with someone who said that the on screen cost was before any discounts had been applied.
That seemed sensible enough, but when I checked the contract it came to £25/month and only for 9 of the 12 months.
I had been particularly careful to check that it was discounted for the full 12 month term when I agreed to the deal in the first place.
Retentions said that they couldn't give me the deal that I'd agreed to, but might be able to stretch to 10 months at £25.
I'm really, really cross about this, particularly because I'd made certain that I understood what I was agreeding to in the first instance.
How can they do this and get away with it?
What's my best course of action now?
Send back the handset?
Ask for the recording of the original conversation?

Thanks

I requested my PAC code and have just had a call from retentions.
Managed to negotiate the following:
500 mins
100 texts
Passport
(as per current tarrif)
unlimited texts and internet
HTC Magic (free)
12 month contract
£24.64 per month.
Asked for a car charger, they were out of stock so offered £5 account credit instead.
I was quite pleased.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

calm down. your case is same as mine.
I just had mine upgraded last Sat, i called back they still cannot find the discount. This time, i would like to wait until the upgrade letter received. check your discount on the letter, it should mention your discount there as my previous upgrade. :T
keep us informed, see how's going on...0 -

thanks very much for that link.
i must admit i hate the way vodafone try and mislead you into accepting deals with hidden catches , its happened twice in the stores over insurance and contract length, and even yesterdays conversation with the phrase "i will give you one months free insurance and free internet" means you are agreeing to insurance and internet.
i know that can be cancelled and i should have read contracts more carefully in the past, but there is a deception involved which is dishonest.
thanks that link is a great bargaining tool0 -

Be careful waiting too long for the contract letter coming through, if you read my thread from further up I too was lied to about my deal, and my contract letter didn't come through with the said discounts, if you miss the 14 day returns period you will be stuck with that contract. Good Luck!0 -
It’s always best to get the person you speak to from the Outbound retentions department to send you an email detailing the offer they have just made you and which you have accepted based on that deal.
I did that and had an email from the guy within a few minutes of hanging up (after I had accepted the deal).
Being extra cautious, I called 191 yesterday to get Vodafone to confirm my new deal/package etc. I ended up speaking to one of their customer service advisers based in an overseas call centre, who had trouble understanding what I wanted to know and then finally told me that my package was different to what I was quoting. I asked him to transfer me to someone who may know what they are doing and he transferred me to the Upgrades department (based in the UK) and the lady I spoke to confirmed that the deal/package/discounts they had on my account was exactly what I was told by the outbound retention dept. She said that the previous bloke I had spoken to had not taken the discounts into consideration and read the whole deal wrong. She also said that a letter detailing the terms/offer of the new contract would be sent to me (which I was told by the Outbound retentions bloke as well).
So when ringing 191 to re-check your offer, make sure you choose the menu option to ‘Upgrade’, that way you should speak to someone here in the UK and then get them to relay what they have on screen in regards to your new deal.0
