My mate has just got a nokia phone from retentions. He's used it for a couple of days but really doesn't like it because of battery life. Does anyone know if he can return it for a diferent phone.

Yes, he gets a 14 day grace period. Tell him to call them about returning the phone, they offer you a better deal which may make him suddenly like the phone. ;)
Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help

Watch for those calls from Vodafone where the person cannot be called back. They are able to give better offers than the people you can call directly at Vodafone.

They called me and made an offer which was amazing (£10/month 500mins, 100 texts, internet included - normally £7 alone I think), but daftly I did not jump at the chance to take the offer. It was later impossible to have it. And the cheeky blighters sent me a letter confirming a new contract at full price (even though we never agreed it... funnily enough they did not have a recording of the call to listen to when I asked them to listen to it and cancel the contract! They did cancel it though)

How long was the contract for when he offered you this? I could do with something like that as i can buy the phone and it would still be worth it

Yeah Bradc, anyone with a pay monthly contract can negotiate for good deals, but how good is slightly dependant on how much you pay them currently.
But at the same time, they will see you as a customer to retain just the same as anyone else if you threaten to cancel and join 02/orange/3/tmobile/virgin.

Have a good browse through this thread for people who have got good blackberry deals so you know the sort of deals vodafone are willing to do- then aim for and press them for something similar. You'll probably have to phone the retentions department a few times before you get the deal you want. If its not close to what you want- tell them you want to cancel. You can always just say you have to go and phone back again later if the bargaining isn't going the way you want. Some people will be much more willing to give you a good deal than others you speak to. Its a bit pot luck.
Go through the basics. First ask for your PAC code to get the ball rolling.

does anyone know if its true that vodafone are stopping their stop the clock feature?

I called up the retentions dept and this is what they told me - it would mean I wouldnt be able to get a new tariff as STC is really useful for me!

No they're not stopping it. They just try not to continue it. I've just renewed my contract (18 months) and they have kept it active on my account. Just tell them that yiu want to keep it. :T

thanks...so can you keep it and move onto a new tariff too though??

The vodafone guy told me the only way to keep it was to stay on my old tariff, which is fine, but doesnt have internet
