Vodafone Retention Deals

  • I'm not so sure.....you say you had requested your PAC code, they then phoned you (assuming that's the "retentions department") and they didn't offer anything and agreed to give you the PAC code, sounds like they've gone through the outgoing customers procedure - who knows maybe they'll call again?

Anyway, you aren't leaving Vodafone - if you don't use the PAC migration code within it's 30 days life span so I wouldn't worry that much

i work in the outbound team that every one on hear keeps mentioning. you may get another call but you may not, our aim is to keep you on the first call we make to you. if it sounds like you are looking for something totaly unrealistic, chances are we will just give you your pac code. my advice to anybody who gets a call from us is to be honest and realistic with what you want as an upgrade. we monitor these types of forums all the time and we are fully aware of what deals are available from other networks, if you can quote us a deal direct from another network ( not through an intermiedate eg. mobile.com, car phone warehouse) the chances are we can better it for you to keep you with us.

To be honest i think if the retentions just offered a decent upgrade on the 1st call you wouldnt need to monitor these forums for offers as most people couldnt be bothered to keep ringing back.
That is the reason why there is as you call unrealistic demands, otherwise how would you bargain. Personally i prefer to call the same person for each upgrade if you still do the text service thing to get a call back

most advisors in my department would be more than happy to give you a contact email address so that you can do all of your future upgrades direct with them. i always give my email address to any customer who takes a deal. as for giving the best deal on the first call we recieve from you, yes it would be alot smoother and probably more productive, but also alot more costly to the company, which inturn would mean greater cost for the customer. i would say that the best thing to do is take the outbound advisors email address and contact them for future upgrades, you can also contact them if you are recomending a friend to vodafone as a new customer as your friend will tend to get a similar deal to your retention deal.

just ask the person you are speaking to to confirm it by email. that way you have always got something in writting to fall back on. just a bit more info for you, some of the upgrade letters people recieve through the post may not display discounts correctly if at all, if you have managed to get the advisor to email you with details of the deal you dont need to worry, its an error on the letters not your upgrade. we are targetted on reducing the calls into the business after an upgrade is agreed so if you have any queries regarding your upgrade and you have an email adress for someone at vodafone, please please please contact them via email first. if you dont get a response in a reasonable amount of time then feel free to call 191 but at least it gives us and you the chance to sort it without upsettign our figures, afterall we are here to do a job and earn money.

uniqads, I've got about two weeks left on my contract, will they call me before it ends, or just let it run out.

As regards to reasonable upgrades, what counts as reasonable? In line with current offers of the same price (for example, my £25 contract two years ago isn't really as good as a new £25 contract today)? A little bit more than the current "new customer" offers? A better phone?

I'm not particularly greedy. I'm not bothered about 10000 minutes and 10000 texts, and a phone that can play pacman with a man on Neptune, because I wouldn't use that. But an improved contract and phone would be nice!

we will only call if you have requested a pac code or written in to cancell your contract. if you have seen a "new customer deal", note down what it is and where you have seen it, then when we call we can try to match or better it. a new phone and a better price plan is what upgrades are all about.

when i mentioned in earlier posts that some people want unrealistic deals, an example would be someone who want a phone with a retail value of £400 on a heavily discounted contract ( discounted from lets say £30 to £15 ) for 12 months. the total cost of the contract is £180 which means that we are -£220 compared to if we let you leave and sold the phone on a pay as you talk scheme for its full value.
  • I have just called retentions to ask for my pac code and the best he offered was 100 minutes more or a data package for £5 instead of £7.50
I now have to E-mail porting out to get my pac code

They are just not interested, I have been with them for 6 years now.

Was that you ringing up and asking for an upgrade?

They will tell you any bull$h1t to keep you paying your cash.

Its simple if you follow this guide:

    1. When in the last month of your contract (or over your contract) research other deals out there to see what is available.
    2. Ring your network and tell them you want to give 30 days notice to cancel. However please see the last line of this post. They may well just give you your PAC and let you leave... I never go over my free minutes and texts though and they always fight to keep me.
    3. They will put you through to the retentions team who will ask why you are leaving. Explain nicely that you have found a better deal with another network. They will ask what the deal is and then make you an offer.
    4. Usually they won't try and beat your other offer if its a really good deal, but instead will just generally talk rubbish about why you are better with them, the other deal is crap etc.
5 When they do finally make you an offer, you can accept or reject. If you decide to reject then give your 30 days notice (request your PAC if you want to keep your number) and then end the call.
    6. With any luck, you will get a call a few days later - make sure you answer it. They will say they are going to give your PAC but before they do, can they ask why you are leaving.
    7. They will now repeat the earlier process asking what the better deal is. This is the person best able to match the other deal. Again, they will make an offer and you can accept or reject. If you reject here, there is a good chance they won't come back again. Although that doesn't mean you should accept their first offer.

When I quote other deals, I always take into account Quidco so for example, if the deal is £20 a month but Quidco is £60 then when I phone them up I will say that I have seen a deal for £15 a month after cashback (don't say Quidco, just say cashback and let them think its a "send your bill in" type of cashback.

You have to be prepared to leave and if you are then that puts you in a strong position.

Sorry Pete, I need more info....

What contract are you on at the min and with what phone?

What new phone did he offer you / did you ask for for what price and what minutes, texts etc?

Reading your posts it sounds as though you've been calling them and have only just requested your PAC code - apologies if I've read that wrong.

As virtually every other poster has said on this thread,

"wait for them to call you".

When you request your PAC code they will try to offer you a deal but it's not usually the best you can get. Once the PAC code request is entered into the system the Outband Customers Department will generally call you within a couple of days (look out for the number 08080000133) and then that's when a better retention deal will hopefully be offered.

It pays to read through the thread to get an idea of:

    A. What constitutes a fair deal.
    B. Get an idea how everyone else is getting these deals.

I've always found this works well and have always found the agents to be very obliging. Too many customers to these companies can be downright rude and demanding and then wonder why they aren't offered anything decent.
