To change or not to change my name?

One of my colleagues has a very common surname and married a guy with the same surname so no change for her.
One friend has a first name that is a commonly a surname and yes, she's with a guy who has her first name as his surname so if they got married that will be tricky.
A female couple I know will have very unfortunate surnames and if they combined it, it'll sound so bad regardless which name is said first. They have discovered in their family history that they each have a distant relative with the same surname so will adopt that.
Me personally I would love to get rid of my surname. it is difficult to pronounce and spell. Even when I spell it phonetically people still spell it incorrectly. The only time when I would keep my name upon marriage is if my hubby's surname was worse.0 -
I'm getting married this year and I will not be changing my name.
I know its tradition, but I just find it a bizarre and unnecessary thing to do. It's all a bit odd, really!0 -
I have been married nearly 30 years and didn't change my name as I felt I would be losing my identity. I've got 2 children who have their dad's name (so I do answer to Mrs (hubby's name) when necessary) and I can honestly say that I have never regretted not changing it.0

Mrs = married woman
Miss = unmarried woman
Ms = woman who does not wish to indicate her marital status (this was my impression anyway)
My point is men aren't judged on the use of "Mr" but woman are on the above
Very true.
Mrs = married woman
Miss = unmarried woman
Ms = bra burning feminist0 -

Is your wife unnecessarily rude to people who haven't done anything to her in other situations?0 -

Mrs - woman who for some reason wants you to know that she is married
Miss - woman who for some reason wants you to know that she isn't married
Ms - woman0 -
I'd have walked had my wife not taken my name. Some things you can't compromise on!
I'm probably considered "old fashioned" these days.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
