Food labels are so confusing. I swapped for seeded “high fibre/ low sugar” bread
134 cal
saturated fat 0.6g carb 18.2of which sugars 1.2g fibre 2.7 protein 4.9g salt 0.44g instead of
50/50 Soft white bread made with 50% wholemeal wheat flour94cal
saturated fat 0.2g carb 16.8g
of which sugars 1.2g fibre 1.9g
protein 3.8g
salt 0.39g.
The 50/50 bread has a bit less cal, less sat fat, less carbs & salt, but also a bit less fibre & protein. 50/50 bread is £1 a loaf, seeded bread was more I think £1.80 in coop. May just stick to 50/50 bread. I only have toast some mornings & still have half a loaf in the freezer.0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

I am just blaming lockdown and stress eating for my high HbA1c due to not walking. I reckon if you do cutting back on crisps and sweets you will be fine.In just one week of walking for an hour a day I can feel a difference. I eat lots of carbs as I need them to stop hypos after injections. As you don't inject you can try cutting some back but I reckon less sweet stuff is better. Good luck.Aiming for a minimal spend 20223

Hey Skinty
Sounds like you have almost got the decorating conquered, no stopping you!
Healthy eating, although it sounds boring, does make you feel good. If it's any help, I was diagnosed pre-diabetic (Type II) a year or two back. Can't remember how the GP described it, but my 'number' was 6.7, and the start number for P-D II was 7... I think it was something about blood sugar levels....
I said I would diet and not do meds. A couple of months later, and back to check on my 'number' again, it had actually gone down to nearly 6, rather than the 6.7. I was hugely disappointed, but the GP said that it was an incredible achievement in a couple of months.... I stuck with the healthy eating, and the P-D symptons went (pain in feet, prickly feeling in hands, tiredness, bloating, etc.), lost a couple of stone, more energy and more active. I feel that my new vegan eating habits have kept me in better shape (not regained weight) which I hope means I have learned to keep it up, because although I can stress eat a lot, it's usually vegan stress eating!
BTW it was M*chael M*sley one (Blood sugar diet) if you decide it's for you.... Sorry, sound like a bossy mum!!
I do walk the dog a lot, probably a minimum of 6,000 steps a day with her, then, sometimes other activities on top, e.g. cleaning, shopping. Walking there and back, walking around shop, adds up to around an extra 20,000 steps! But only do that once a week.... Sorry, info overload....."...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains however improbable, must be the truth..."

Thanks SW I’m not “dieting” as such just cutting on the bad stuff & just trying to make healthier choices, but it’s difficult when you expect something like seeded bread to be much healthier than white 50/50 bread but there doesn’t seem to be that much difference. I do need to cut back on sugar & fat as my cholesterol has gone up & increase my fruit & veg. According to NHS I should be 10st 6 at my heaviest, so that’s what I’m aiming for. I was 11st 2lb last Sunday.Walked puppy dog for an hour this morning. Just finished painting & all done now 🤗 took about an hour. This afternoon’s social distanced gathering in a friends garden has been called off due to the rain. Saves me having to go to the shop for nibbles & drink.Food plans today
B - 2 egg omelette ham & cheese 7 Strawberries.L - Home made vegetable soup Tuna salad. Melon slices.S - oatcakes & cottage cheese
D - other half of Aldee rack of ribs, corn on the cob & home made wedges. Frozen banana
Weigh day tomorrow. Will see if there is any difference.0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

Seeded bread is so nice. Once I stood in M, going through all the bread to find a low cal one. Just went purely off the cal content and not the rest of it, walked out with a loaf of Dan1sh, which we all know means several slices to try and fill us up when eating it!
Another observation is some of the things we think are 'healthy' and 'good for us' are not, only in moderation they supplement our meals and make them more interesting. Some meats are a lot better / healthier than others. In that respect weekly meal planning means a balance throughout a 7 day period.
I'm so boring and geeky at times, sorry 🙈
Well done on finishing the painting 🤗
Please try and have a relaxing weekend to enjoy the time off, have a bit of you time even if it's feet up with a brew and a nap 😁

I try to buy a variety of meat & fish. This weeks shop included chicken fillets, cubed beef, bbq ribs, peppered mackerel, sardines in tomato sauce & 2 tins tuna. The bbq ribs were a treat and cut in half for 2 meals. I used half a tin of tuna the other day with a jacket potato & the other half today with salad. The chicken fillets will carry over to next week & I will freeze what’s left of them later today. The beef is going into the slow cooker tomorrow with veg for stew & curry and will be frozen in portions. The only difference in my shopping is more fruit instead of chocolate, biscuits & crisps, cottage cheese & oatcakes for snacks & I bought the 50% less fat version of the cheddar I normally buy. When I go shopping on Tuesday I will go to lidl and use my £5 off voucher and get some nuts too. They do a better range than aldi.I’ve known for ages that I needed to change my eating habits so the doc has given me the kick up the rear that I needed. I will still be aiming to keep to my monthly budget £120 & using aldi super six.0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

Sorry Ren just seen your post. We must have cross posted. 🙄
Over time the bad habits crept back until lockdown and then I reverted to eating chocolate, biscuits, cake etc.I have been watching the m*chael m*sley new lockdown series but I’m not sure I want to cut back to 800 calories a day!0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

It sounds dire, but, I actually enjoyed cutting back to 800 calories for a while, my stomach, instead of battling the over-full discomfort of stress-eating, thanked me for it! And luckily, it is only for a limited time, his book gives an incredible amount of information. You cannot live on it for life, the book explains that, it is a short term way to kick start your body burning off excess body fat, and not use carbs for fuel. You then have to return to a more 'normal' way of eating, but still limit carb intake to maintain that loss (but not as severely). He also advises to get properly health-checked, discuss with GP especially if you are on meds, etc. It's not something where you can calorie count yourself and limit to 800 cals, there is a healthy eating plan design in it....
The proper cook book one written by his Dr Missus gives the better recipes. Might be in the local library? Jeez, I sound like a crazed fan, but, it is the only diet I have tried which has helped me lose weight, and maintain the same weight, despite my lapses into junk food. I always end up going back to the healthy eating. As the old Japanese saying: fall down 7 times, get up 8...."...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains however improbable, must be the truth..."

Weigh in day & today I am 11st, lost 2lb 🤗 Quite happy with that.Still using up food from my last shop. Today I will cook beef in the slow cooker & portion up for meals to go in the freezer.B - Porridge & mashed banana.
L - chicken & salad with cous cous & melonD - slow cooked beef with new potatoes, cauliflower & carrotsSnacks will be strawberries, oatcakes with mackerel rocket & cucumber.I find if I eat smallish portions & snacks throughout the day I feel better & don’t suffer so much with my other stomach problems.Should get bills money from DS & his gf tomorrow. 2 more food shops before payday. I am hoping to keep them to £25 each as I have meals that will carry over from this week in the freezer. Lunch out on Tuesday should be under £10. No plans for anything else this month. Will then see what is left over for savings.
