I also agree that they've badly, badly miscalculated here. They obviously need to cover their costs but if they can't get anyone to agree to a higher price for carriage deals here and in europe then I suppose there's a very real possibility there could be channel closures.
Hmm... maybe. They do have other options. They have 13 channels in total which over the years they have either acquired or created very quietly. And so they are almost like a mini TV channel. So they do have the option of launching standalone or tying up with another provider.
After all, its not beyond the realms of possibility they could re-appear on the Sky platform standalone, without a Sky T&C in sight.0 -

They'd have to do a deal with Sky to be included in the EPG.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The Discovery Channels is one of the main things i watch on Sky Tv. The Movies just repeat themselves and often the "Premier" isn't worth watching.
I fully expect the face of sky to be stating "business as usual". I currently pay £30 per month for "The Complete Bundle", i wonder how much the reduction would be based upon the loss of Discovery, probably £3-4 per subscriber and the opportunity to end the deal/reduce the package....But where do we all go?0 -
A lot of comments on the Sky forums that if the channels do vanish, they'll not allow cancellation mid-contract without penalty. I'll be trying my hardest against the "disadvantaged" clause.0

I wouldn't be betting on any reduction, they'll plug the holes with other channels.0 -
I have to say that Sky's rebuttal http://www.sky.com/discoveringmore is a lot classier than Discovery's efforts so far. Discovery have been really aggressive especially on their twitter (I think) where they're actively cheering on customers to contact Sky and give them hell.0

We do watch a lot of Discovery programs - Our sky contract expires in 8 weeks time - We are considering dropping sky after over 12 years (currently paying £44 per month for an HD package) - if we do this - what channels will the HD+ box receive and will we need a new "freeview" viewing card ?
We also have an Amazon firestick - which I believe repeats most of the freeview channels ?
Why do sky not inform customers rather than rely on them reading about it on-line ?0 -

They've allowed loads of people to cancel over this so far so they can't suddenly change their minds.Colin_Maybe wrote: »I have to say that Sky's rebuttal http://www.sky.com/discoveringmore is a lot classier than Discovery's efforts so far. Very true. Discovery have been promoting the australian open tennis finals with the strapline 'If they played football, maybe Sky would love them like you do.' which is really rather petty.0 -
Don't forget that sky are planning on "over inflation" price rises in March as well as losing these 13 channels !!0

I appreciate the effort and info, I hope it'll work out for me also but I can't get into the chat - always busy.0
