Sky Fail To Reach Agreement With Discovery

Just spoken to a sky rep who have said that as of yet its not 100% that the channels will be disapeering...
Technically it's true of course, but why would Discovery launch the campaign to "save" them ?
Why would sky remove the discovery channels from their website ?
Why would they email people telling them that the channels will likely be gone ?
It's looking far more likely to happen than not IMO0 -
Read that Sky customers may lose access to Discovery Channels including Eurosport 1 and 2. Eurosport have an offer until 31/01/2017 - 1 year subscription to Eurosport Player on any device for £20 instead of £60.0

Interesting rebuttal from Sky today: http://www.sky.com/discoveringmore
We have worked really hard for more than a year to get a deal done for our customers with Discovery, so we are disappointed with their misleading claims and aggressive actions0 -
Plus I bet asking for close to £1bn didn't help.0

As Virgin have dropped Discovery, their market is reducing, so surely it would be better to keep more customers at a lower price; like Sky etc choose to do by doing retention offers.
As it costs them no more, end providers, do benefit, in total from all the retained customers paying smaller amounts, so as Discovery's programmes are already produced and paid for, one would think that more buyers, but at a lower price would be preferable to very few paying a large sum , but whose sudden withdrawal of custom would mean to few clients to be workable.0 -

£1 billion is absurd.
No, they actually wanted £1bn. Up from an alleged £600m, over a five year deal.
There are two sides to every story -
Sky have overreached by paying an extra 83% increase for Premier League football. Discovery have overreached by paying £920m for the Olympics until 2022. Discovery wanted more, Sky less. Impasse.
These channels are gone. And since Discoverys Olympics purchase, Sky haven't been the first platform to drop them, and won't be the last.
It looks like Discovery have very badly miscalculated here, re demand vs costs, in expanding their Eurosport portfolio. Whereas Netflix have stated they won't be touching live sport with a barge-pole.0 -

I do agree that I think the channel package definitely will be gone at the end of the month.
I also agree that they've badly, badly miscalculated here. They obviously need to cover their costs but if they can't get anyone to agree to a higher price for carriage deals here and in europe then I suppose there's a very real possibility there could be channel closures.0 -
