This article implies that that UK door is "all but shut" to Discovery so it's looking less and less likely that either side is trying to bluff it through.

    Its on BT's Entertainment packages.

I obviously meant the uk door with sky, but, to be fair, i didn't explicitly say that.

I noticed as well all of the affected channels have been removed from the list of channels on the Box Sets package when I log in.
Not happy with this at all, of the 13 channels, I regularly watch from six of them, including several long running series of programs.
I have Sky Q, so I think I have grounds for cancellation, but more likely to ask for a discount, but if none forthcoming...well!
Thanks to all the competition posters.
  • If you believe some of the stories appearing around the web, it could well be the start of discovery splitting from a number of cable and satellite companies.

they appear to be having problems throughout europe as well with carriage agreements.

It is quite interesting isn't it Jason. The group has been quietly increasing its own collection of channels, programs, international sports rights and at the same time has slowly tested and improved its eurosport player, when you stop and think about it they have a damn good package that only needs a few tweaks and adjustments here and there and they could be a proper TV service. The only thing they are missing is a hardware manufacturer, but if they are willing to just go software only they are basically ready to launch.

Indeed they are and have been dropped by a number of platforms across Europe. In my opinion Sky will be another one as this spat has just become too public -

''[Sky] says the channels are no longer as popular with viewers as they used to be and that it had been “overpaying” for them in recent years.''

So cancelling mid contract might be up for debate but assuming I can freely move from the box set/top package £37 to the original/entry package £22 freely? Don't I just need to give them 30 days notice? We only had the top package for the documentaries on Discovery so it makes no more sense to stay with that.

I love the fact that Sky still advertise these channels though when you go and look at the details for their bundles (albeit they have the red banner at the top). I wonder if you now select the top package as a new customer whether they have a pop up box stating about these channels disappearing soon? Really peeved about Eurosport - used that a lot and I know my wife's mum will be far from happy as she watches a lot of tennis on that. Oh well I have been looking for a reason to get rid/downgrade Sky for ages so her goes. I cannot see it taking long before Discovery have their own app on Apple TV or alike where you just pay £5 directly with them a month like you do with other apps like Netflix, NOW TV etc

Okay, call me dumb:o:o as I have Virgin was unsure if we would lose out too? Seems not.

On another forum someone was suggesting that BT buy the channels and show them instead:D

Looks like this is happening, given that Discovery are the only channels I watch I'd be interested on hearing if I could cancel my Sky Q (In contract until September) but keep my broadband... I could move that if the whole thing had to be cancelled.
