Discovery are asking sky for £1.39 per subscriber per month....
Sky have told them where to go,..
How much are sky paying now ?

I've seen a figure of £600 million bandied about (over a five year deal?) but that Discovery want near 1 Billion pounds this time around(again, 5 over years?)

Appears they are now offering a 40% discount straight off if you cancel due to the discovery thing , may only be if you are out of contract but if you look in the retentions thread they offer 60-75 % so tell them no thanks and hold out for more , be prepared to wait until the end of your 30 days . Look in your MySky for offers whil you wait , 60% is about the norm there

I'll stay if they offer a heavy discount on not more than a 12 month contract

For those who've not done it before

    1) ring and ask for cancellations " due to discovery channels going"
    2) stick to your guns and insist they cancel , clock then starts on 30 days
    3) wait for calls offering discount to stay , accept nothing LESS than 50-60 % which is normal (may appear in your MySky online account under offers ) . If you take all their packages they MAY offer 75%
    4) be prepared to get a few days without Sky TV
    5) worst case you bottle and accept 40%

^^ 75% off with account credit is about the best you can get. The complete bundle (Sports, Movies, HD) is £30 per month..

Original Bundle is basically freeview...and worthless. Not even the £18-20 they will go. The use of the "record" function can be retained for £5 per month...

Well I am not sorry to see it go. I hate Discovery Home and Health, so I won't miss it when it's gone. Most of those other channels are horrible anyway.
    Not my cup of tea.

I'm in a minimum term that ends in June 2017, having negotiated a discount last June.

I've only really got Sky to access Eurosport.

I've rung Sky (got through in 5 minutes) and they have absolutely confirmed if they do lose Eurosport and the Discovery channels on 1st February, then I will be able to cancel my contract early without charge, but that early cancellation only applies if they do lose Eurosport and the Discovery channels. That seems fair enough to me. I will be cancelling should Eurosport be lost.

That appears to be their general position also. They have an on screen message that states that which they are passing on to anyone who asks to cancel.
    I came, I saw, I melted

So you are happy to pay Sky the same as you already do (and probably more in the not to distant future ) but receive less ?, I think it's possible you are suffering from a form of Stockholm Syndrome..
FWIW , 'hate' seems a bit strong, there are many channels I don't watch on Sky, but I don't hate any of them, I just don't watch them, I will miss the Discovery channels though and are considering getting rid of Sky TV as £32 a month for what will be left that I watch will hardly be VFM for me.
I'm not telling you to quit, what I am saying is how can you be happy if they don't reduce what you pay, because even if you don't watch them , you are currently paying for them, so if Sky costs reduce, why not yours

Is that what Sky are going to do?
Charge us for those channels when we no longer have them?

    That's not right.
If we are no longer receiving them they should not charge us.

I never asked for those channels in the first place.
    They were just there.

I would delete them myself if I could, but there is no option to do that on Sky.
Not like there is with Freeview where you can delete channels if you want.
But for some strange reason Sky does not have that.
    I don't know why.

  • i'm watching the African nations cup with interest and looks like I'll lose it at semi final stage.

Don't want to pay £20 for Eurosport player as it's never got anything I want on.

Anywhere else I can see the games other than m****o and k**i ??

I have hot bird and Astra satellites too
