You have to phone them up to have the record function restored and the price seems variable. I've seen £5 and £10 both mentioned but I've also seen cases where they'll leave it enabled when you cancel the TV package but that seems dependent on your history with them and possibly how nicely you ask. :)

I was quoted £10 a month and they also flatly refused to leave me with the recording facility for anything less than that.

I tried the "my friend got it for nothing just this morning" line but that didn't work either.

It's a pain in the short term because I do prefer to record whatever i watch so i can watch it when i want to, but i'll just have to work something out until i can get the money together to get a Humax Freesat PVR.

I think that the important point is the phone line is still theirs !!
    Not in my case though
  • I have Sky Q, mini Q, with full package, sky phone and fibre. Contracted until August. Anyone else with Q got offered a discount ?

If you mean due to the spat with Discovery then the channels are still there at the moment, less than 15 hours to go though (got to look that countdown timer on the Discovery website :) )

We'll know more tomorrow or a few days later no doubt (maybe...)

I have the same package as you, contracted until September.

My intention is to call tomorrow (If the channels vanish) and cancel the Sky Q package, retaining the phone and fibre broadband. This would reduce my monthly payment to £21/mth which I'm happy with. I'll then buy a standard LNB for our dish and a Humax Freesat box so the wife can continue recording her soaps.

Have already spoken on live chat & said I wish to cancel. My tv package isnt due to finish the 12 month period until 4th April but they let me leave penalty free. Will now be sitting back & watching my offers on my sky site. Though for what I am paying in total for broadband & TV I may switch all to BT

With discovery going - what is the difference between Sky "Original" and Sky "Variety" ?
It claims - an extra 20 channels - but I see no difference in the channel listing...
I may as well downgrade and save £120 pa

Sky has designed its site to blur clients' being able to make comparisons, so some careful searching is need. The Discovery and Eurosport channel have already been removed from the channel listings.

The number of channels comparison between Original and Variety is as follows today:

    Entertainment 23 vs 23
    Life 2 vs 2
    News 3 vs 3
    Sports 1 vs 3
    International 4 vs 4
    Kids 0 vs 11
    Documentary 0 vs 6
    Music 0 vs 9

So if you have no young children and do not watch music, then the differences are painfully light. In Variety, you get six documentary channels, At The Races and Sports News HQ.

Sky always increases prices beyond inflation and then claims that it is offering better value by providing more choice. With choice now being reduced there ought to be a price decrease for all Variety and Boxsets clients.

Will they let me downgrade for the remaining 2 months of my contract through ?
I bet they won't - they prefer to shoot themselves in the feet .
