    Hello Wednesday Penny-Wranglers,
Thanks for all your good wishes re this horrible flu. I do think it is on its way out now. I did wake up at 5.20a.m with a ghastly headache but think that was just from sleeping deeply for the first time for ages, so I got up & took some codiene & that sorted it out. I have a head full of gunge, am still coughing & have very low energy levels, but I don't feel as horrid as I did & my mood is getting brighter. If I could just go out SOMEWHERE this weekend.....honestly, just a couple of shops in town & a coffee would feel so special, because I have been nowhere since Christmas. Anyway, enough of my Plague, here are today's small things:
*Two baths from one lot of hot water.
*Washed hair & let it dry naturally to save a tiny bit of electricity.
*Did the final laundry of the week, just a half load, minimal powder, now on heated airer, will hopefully be dry by this afternoon.
*Freezer Dive for tonight's meal with jacket potatoes. I'm having Quorn chilli. Mr f has dug out all sorts of containers of festive leftovers & is making a big stew. A 'man's stew', apparently....which usually means it will a) be huge b) contain things I don't like i.e leftover sprouts!
*Managed to save enough of a lemon to make a mug of honey & lemon for later. It was one of those lemons where it looks just slightly soft when you go up to bed, but by the morning when you've got up, it's developed blue fur & is practically heading off to the compost bin on its own.
*Swept kitchen floor. Didn't have the energy to fetch the Dyson out, so saved electricity too. I bought my long handled dustpan & brush from Betterware absolutely years ago & it's really useful for a general sweep, picking up spills, etc. It's amazing just how much it does pick up (it's one of those narrow brushes which you can swish in amongst stuff).
*Wrote letter....this fell off yesterday's list. Used a recycled envelope.
*Did a few surveys. Still seem to be problems with Toluna's site.
*Intend to have a leisurely afternoon on sofa under furry rug with cat & hwb watching films & knitting my sock order. Making good progress but got to keep at it & am keen to see the cash.
So not much today again, but I am concentrating on continuing to get better. This hasn't been the worst flu I've ever had, but it's certainly lasted the longest.
    Have a productive day all,
    F xx

Nothing much to report for me today.

Breakfast and lunch was cup-a-soup and then tinned soup respectively.

Dinner tonight will be our version of N@ndo's, peri peri chicken breasts from Mr T with chips and coleslaw, all in the fridge or freezer already so hopefully a no spend day.

I will print out my postage label for WeBuyBooks at work as we've run out of ink at home and I've sourced a suitably-sized box.

I need to pick up some toys I bought for future birthdays at half price in the John Lewis sale but I have forgotten my ID (again.)

I have cried off of another works night out pleading poverty (not so far from the truth.)

Have a great day everyone :)

    Afternoon all,

FatVonD, Your dinner tonight sounds lovely!
Foxgloves, Good to hear that you are starting to feel brighter.

The January blues have kicked in with me here :( I've not shifted this headache all day and am really low on energy. Normally in January I love the fresh start to the year and having a good old clear out etc but I just can't seem to get motivated this week. Its Wednesday already am I'm no further on then I was this time last week.
    There is some positives today..
My eldest gave me the biggest hug tonight, best things in life are free :D
My youngest decided not to stay for a free afterschool club, so at least we don't have to head back out again.
    I have just claimed a £10 amaz0n voucher from a survey site :)

Right I'm off, going to claim another hug from kiddo's and then make them their tea.
    (sorry for moaning )

Foxgloves horray for feeling well. Hope 'the man stew' will be delicious :)

Clootiesmum Should I admit to giggling about your bathtime mishap?

LL I hope you feel happier again soon. I'm glad your son's cheered you up a little though.

Determined I'm with you on Ysing. I don't buy anything I don't need anyway. I'll happily pay for 10 loaves if they are there at 10p each, then stick them in the freezer and use them up. Then rinse and repeat. We hammer through salad leaves even during the winter so I have no issue buying a bag for a few pence. Meat is the big winner for most people on YS. You can pretty much substitute any similar meat if it's on sale. I don't really like pork mince but it's often reduced to under £1 for 500g, so I do buy it then.

There were a load of mini sausage rolls down to around 33p a pack in Mr S on Sunday. Lots of people were gathering round to get some. I hate that poorly made cheap instant pastry and the sausage meat is usually around 15% so I would never consider that a bargain.

Should I also admit to making myself laugh over how on this thread LBD doesn't stand for a slinky evening dress but something to have from your stores, and YSL doesn't mean a desirable fashion designer but the height of Frugal Chic, Yellow Sticker Loaf ;) we could be the alternative S*x in the city Gang

  • Evening all :coffee:
I'm struggling a bit today. Not sure why because I've had a couple of really good nights - but I feel completely wiped. My eyeballs actually hurt and I have had a niggling headache all day that I just can't shift at all.
Another busy day at work - but still doing ok there at the moment. Still very much in the honeymoon period with the new Head; I'm happier there than I can remember for ages. Was there until 6 tonight though so quite a late one for me. It's all good though, my second day of free training that I actually have found very useful.
Other than that I've done my usual daily housework jobs, checked banking and PAD to savings, bagged a nsd and am about to have an evening of relaxing. It's cold again outside and I've had to put the heating on... I'm going to have an early night and hopefully feel better tomorrow.
Foxgloves - I'm so pleased that you're finally on the mend and I really hope that you're able to get out and about this weekend.

Thank you soooooo much for all your comments on YS, that's really helped me improve my YS buying skills! Love the questions Yorkshire Lass and thank you for the examples of good YS purchases gives me something to work with. I think I agree the discounts at Asda were far better than co-op.

I've had a mega busy day at work so I've had packed lunch, check FPL, bumped Facebook posts and had lots of free cups of coffee on constant supply from my colleagues.

Thats all for today, LP x

    Evening all :)
Late check in this evening, been babysitting a poorly 3 year old and am shattered :(
Interesting chat about YS items, nothing gets reduced by much here, for example, bread might be yellow stickered with 20p off the standard price, but why wouldn't you pay the extra 20p and buy a fresh one? More expensive items such as meat, max reduction is only about £1, or £2 if it is something really expensive.... so it is still really expensive, just not so fresh  The really low prices some of you mention would tempt me, but I rarely buy YS items at the prices asked here.
Not much moneysaving has gone on here - no heating this morning as it was mild and sunny for a change, then it got really cold this afternoon, so OH lit the stove. GD and I did some tidying in the garden this morning, and baked biscuits after lunch, but lots of cuddles needed as the day wore on.

I can claim a NSD though, as I didn't venture further than the post box!

It's always worth asking the staff in the supermarket when they do their final reductions, I've always found them happy to tell you if you ask nicely.

Our big Mr T barely reduce things at all, much like Dawn I'd rather pay another 20p and buy it fresh. Our big Mr S do their last reductions at around 7.30pm as do our little local Mr T where things get reduced massively.

Dinner was lovely and even better because DH already had it in the oven when I got home :T

I have helped DS apply for a job online (for which read I applied for it for him) so fingers crossed.

I've just been doing the sums and weighing up the pros and cons of selling books on WBB versus eBay. I've come to the conclusion for used its better to sell on WBB but for new (provided they sell at all) it still works out better selling on eBay (with WBB as a back up for anything that doesn't look like selling.)

Somebody on another thread somewhere on here suggested going round charity shops and zapping the bar codes of likely looking books and DVDs/games etc then buying any where the price paid online is more than the CS price, apparently text books hold their price well, it would take some cheek to do it but it might be worth a try.

Hope you all are having a lovely evening :)
