How would you expect to travel from job to job .....Company car ? Not realistic in that industry and the current economic climate. Not sure if this is another excuse or you really think this way.

Yes I have realised all that. And after some thought it's not feasible. Call it an excuse if you like but it's not. It's a reality. Mycircumstances don't make it feasible.

Not everything I say is an excuse.
Thank you to all for your help and suggestions.

Surely you'll find out at interview what they would pay in mileage.

plus you might be able to claim tax credits as well. Don't write it off before you've had the interview

It sounds like an excuse. I realise 19 years out of the workplace is daunting but in the nicest way possible it's time to put your big girl pants on. If you can hack it this is the perfect job for you because it allows you to work round the dog. Unless you walk into that interview drunk you're almost guaranteed to be offered in (caring tends to be a sure thing. V high staff turnover)
You will almost certainly be given mileage which will go towards petrol as well as maintenance.

Many insurance companies charge no extra for business use. Make a phone call and find out. The job sounds perfect for fitting around the family and will give you more confidence. You have nothing to lose.

I'd be wary too. I have come across companies that don't pay enough for mileage plus time at clients as they don't count the travel time between clients. Unless this practice has been outlawed?

What I'd want in your circs, is a quick to walk into job, preferably part-time for now, which would give me some hours to go and sit at solicitor appointments and estate agents as well as dog walk! I'd start with something like this to apply for

    From the link above:
    Example 1

A care worker has 2 appointments in the morning and doesn’t take any breaks. The worker must be paid at least the minimum wage for the time he spends at the appointments, plus the travel time between appointments.

I think you should go to this interview with an open mind , the worst that can happen is you get some interview practice.

Writing off a job because you MIGHT have higher insurance and you MIGHT not have a mileage allowance without finding out for sure doesn't make sense.

You are job hunting at a time of high unemployment with little to offer an employer in terms of working experience so you may want to consider how picky you can afford to be , especially if you aren't looking for the right job but simply the right-now job to take a first step back into employment.

With six months working under your belt you are a far more attractive prospect to a far wider range of employers.

Definitely go to the interview, and take the job if you get it. It is much much much easier to get a job, any job, if you are already working than if you're not, and you will have already started dealing with the gap in your CV! Take part time hours at first if you feel that's all you can manage for now.

While you're doing the job you can also see what you think about working in a caring role, you may find you absolutely love it and want to take it further as a career, or you may find its really not right for you and can then rule it out as a long term prospect and keep looking at other options.

Sorry , what is not feasible?
Travel to a job place and from it ?
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.
