I know there is a way round it and there are dog walkers in the area but I'm not going to leave him to sort out til the last minute. Sorry if that is annoying you, not meaning to and probably not getting my point across. My daughter can look after herself, the dog can't.
one step at a time me dear,
honestly you will find a way.0 -

My head has so many things going round at the moment, hopefully OH and I can talk properly at some point and work out how tomove forward. Told my Dad today, he came round with my sister. He was surprised but supportive.
Now OH has to tell his parents, he hasn't decided when but knows going to see them rather use the phone is best.
then we have to decide when to tell the kids. Before or after Xmas...0 -

It's a gmail account that my husband knows about. We've used it on holidays and when regular email (OH has done a home server for email) isn't working. Which isn't very often at all. It's one that I don't actually check unless I need to use it.0 -

I haven't even suggested you 'disregard' the dog.
I am well aware that a dog is part of a family, are you really aware too? I mean YOU are the one keen to keep on with the theme that your dog is a potential problem and that you might have to get rid of him - there is a simple solution (dog walker) which has been mentioned several times yet you keep raising your dog as a obstacle.
Now you say you haven't discussed the dog with your OH yet earlier in the thread you said he suggested it be re-homed.
Hmm.
The dog was mentioned once, he brought it up - which was the rehoming suggestion.

Just to clarify my above post - the dog rehoming. I haven't mentioned anything I've said here to my OH. My concerns and worries over the dog.0 -
I have thought of that! Not sure how much money you make from that though or if it's more of a hobby type thing.
I've just googled dog walker Leeds (the city I live in) and clicked a random result. It was £9 for a 50 minute walk, or £18.50 for 50 minutes with just one dog. That seemed to be a large company, so an individual wouldn't be able to charge that much, but it seems a lot more of a job than just a hobby.
ETA: I've clicked another couple and around £10 an hour seems to be standard.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Ten pound an hour and bearing in mind you would sometimes be walking more than one dog at a time and probably get extra work when owners are on holiday, even allowing for costs like business insurance is likely to be more lucrative than a minimum wage part time job.
Have you sat down and worked out how much you will need to be earning to survive yet ? Whilst your daughter is still at college tax credits will supplement your earnings but once she leaves college that will all disappear so it may be wiser to work on getting back into employment or starting a business whilst you still have the tax credit buffer whilst you establish yourself.
Not sure why you think a good independent dog walker can't charge the same as a large company. Would you pay more for a dog walker just because they had a company name when buying what is a service based on a quite personal relationship?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I don't know why I thought a national company could charge more, probably because they did a lot more than just dog walking (boarding and things as well). And I was probably thinking in terms of established vs taking a risk on someone new. I've never owned a dog so it's not something I've ever put serious thought into.
I phrased it badly though, it's been a long day.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
I've got a 16yo at college. He's there 2.5 days per week. That's doing an equivalent of 3 A levels course. I should imagine your teen is also home during the day on a few weekdays days plus weekends. Between you, one of you will find time to dog walk.0
