Thank you to all the helpful peeps who've told me what to eat to improve my nails. I'll be going for the avocado and olives (but I don't think either are a SW free food on any day?) tuna and mackerel options and thinking about zinc and magnesium too.

I still think chocolate might be part of the answer too.

Bails could you do something that just occupies your hands so much that you can't use them to put food in your mouth? (I hope Ajax is too busy to be reading this) I'm thinking cross stitch or knitting or something of that sort? Though that would drive me to distraction as I'm completley hopeless at either.

Order your shopping online then there's no temptaion to buy the little extras.

Asking the OH to hide the treats wouldn't work for me --- I'd find them. My DD has a bought for me somefun size bags of chocolate buttons and just puts ONE packet in the house at any one time. Pathetic or what?

Forget about Day One -- what if you go straight to day two and pretend you're already succeeeding?
  • Hurrayyyyyyy!!

    I lost 1.1kg

I had a problem with my asthma last week and the doc put me on a course of steroids, so i am quite happy with that weight lose considering.

Dont get weighed now until 1st November so really need to be strict and do the exercise as well.

    Hi everyone

Back from an unsuccessful trip to Ikea (although I did manage to find a slightly damaged magnetic board for 50p!!) so sorting my life will have to wait!

Thanks again for all the advice, I've printed it out to help me focus tomorrow. Going back to basics: dug out my 2 litre bottle so I can keep an eye on my fluids, will do menu plan in morning (got tomorrow sorted already) and been thinking about all the reasons I want to lose the weight (will write them down too).

I'd already done the healthy shop - don't tend to buy anything bad at the supermarket, just when I go round the corner shop!!:D But all remnants from the party are gone so just healthy yummy stuff left.

Anyway, the Ikea trip has helped OH and I bond a bit (we had a disastrous anniversary last night - Petrichor you can obviously see into the future;)) so we're back working as a team on the real issues.

And I've just watched Waterloo Road so I'm well fired up about going back to work, which is one of my main motivations for the weight loss. Bring it on!

Right, I'll see you all on the other side for the start of Day 'Two'!:rotfl:

    Just wondering.
Has anyone tried the Paul Mckenna system?

I have lost 2.5 stone (hurrah!!) but I'm really struggling to lose the last 0.5 stone, mostly due to eating and drinking whilst socialising.

They seem to have good reviews but was just wondering whether anyone else here had had success with it.

I bought the CD and book last year and decided to try it. Unfortunately the CD was of no use whatsoever.

Not because it didn't work - just because every time I listened to it his voice just sent me to sleep so I didn't actually hear/take in what he was saying as I couldn't hear it for my own snoring.

The book was good - there were four points which made a lot of sense - unfortunately I can't remember them exactly. I think it said something about when you aere eating you should put down your knife and fork between mouthfuls and think about what you are eating, moving it around your mouth trying to determine the different flavours. I did do this for a while and found I did actualy eat less and did enjoy my food more but I think because I wasn't getting the full advantage of the CDs I kind of fell away and put on even more weight.

Maybe I should look it out again and give it another try (and try and stay awake!!)

I have a friend (male) who tried the Paul McKenna thing and it worked a treat for him! The 'put your cutlery down' was one of the things he told me about, not sure of the others, but he lost 3.5 stone I think in a relatively short space of time. He certainly looked well on it, and he said it wasn't difficult to stick to.

  • i've come on here to get away from the fridge. had a stressful drive home which made me late for going out to the other job and have come home wanting to eat. It's a green day so i've caned some pasta n sauce and am now eyeing up the instant mash. At 2230! I have such a bad relationship with food!

Bails, hope you are feeling on the up now, we are all behind you and wanting to help you succeed. Grannynise's suggestion of keeping your hands busy is good - and it's a great time of year to take up something crafty to do for christmas pressies. Granny, i was supposed to have a crab and avocado salad for lunch at weekend - right up until i checked the SW website. The avocado is now on the compost heap and i just had crab instead. Right off to take some of my own advice and do something with my hands to keep away from the fridge. OH is away so can't tell me off for doing it in bed. (if that doesn't bring Ajax out of his lurking corner then nothing will). Oh a quick question for anyone who might be able to help - i want to put my business website on my profile - am i allowed? I know it's not allowed in a signature but i can't find anything to tell me if i can put it in the profile. Don't want to get into trouble!
  • Key points from Paul Mc Kenna

    1. Eat only when you are physically hungry

    2. stop when you are satisifed (ie; the food has lost it's amazing flavour) not full. There's a point in your solar plexus(between your ribcage) which will let you know when you've had enough to eat. (be careful with this one, once you've discovered this feeling, it's virtually impossible to overeat even if you want to).

    3. Put down your knife and fork between mouthfuls and concentrate on what is in your mouth at the minute and not prepare your next mouthful.

    4. Eat what you want not what you think you should have.

I only know this because I borrowed the Paul Mckenna book from a friend, but I have tried practising this method years ago. There were 2 americans (Hanson and Goodman) presenting a book on QVC about 7-10 years ago called "The 7 Secrets of Slim People" I bought it back then. Paul McKenna's stuff is straight from their research so it isn't anything new.

this is a useful guide if you fancy trying the Paul McKenna way without spending the cash.

The thing I find difficult is boredom/emotional eating and that's what makes McKenna's method different. He uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help you to distract from your emotional/boredom eating. Hanson & Goodman advise you to take baby steps to deal with the causes of your emotional eating. As for boredom eating - I just need to find a hobby that I can do at home. Being left handed, I might be creative but not crafty. Love to bake but the only person who eats what I bake is me... anyone got any suggestions for a wannabe card making leftie?
