    Hi guys

Well, I made it to the class, and back again! :D It was 85 mins but v low level so I managed to do all of it except a couple of the exercises. I felt tired and ill almost straight away but this is to be expected - the real test will be in a couple of days time. I came home and had some food as I was hungry (very rarely feel hungry so that was great!). I felt really full of cold in my face, if you know what I mean, so I had a sleep and now I can breathe much more freely than I have since I got back from India.

So I'm well chuffed that I went, and if it means I've burnt a few extra calories then even better serendis.

Sorry to hear you've been feeling rough Victory, lucky you off to Wembley though! And as for Liz Hurley and her like :mad::mad::mad::mad: The amount of teenagers I see with totally unrealistic expectations and EDs thanks to that lot drives me to distraction!!!

    Hi all.
Has anyone here suffered with "diet assisted" exhaustion ? I have been on WW for 3.5 months and several weeks ago i started suffering the most hurrendous bouts of tiredness and overall lows. I eventually went to the donctors who ran several tests and concluded that due to lifestyle (kids, running business) and diet i had pushed myself to the brink of depression due to lack of seratonin. becuse of the lack of this hormone my adrenalin gland had been working overtime, not good.
Last time i dieted things started going screwy, TOTM ect, but it did not click that it was the diet that was the issue but this time it is something i have raised with my WW leader who has not some across this. My doc has said to stop diet and get back to normal intake and has even perscribed Fluxotine !

Has anyone else experienced this ? and also how did you deal with it ?
I would really appriciate any feedback any of you are able to give

    Thanks all
Vicky (not depressed but a bit tired)

    Hi vicky

From this site I found this:-

    Unbalanced slimming diets
Many dieters suffer from depression, which is usually caused by one or more deficiencies in the diet. Very-low-energy diets are deficient in most nutrients (carbohydrate, protein and amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids) and should really only be used under the guidance of a clinical dietician.
If you are on a very-low-energy diet, be aware of the danger of nutrient deficiencies. Preferably you should switch to a more balanced slimming diet or at least take a complete vitamin and mineral supplement, as well as salmon oil capsules to provide essential fatty acids (omega-3) and an amino acid supplement.
High-protein diets can also cause vitamin and carbohydrate deficiencies. Because carbohydrates affect the serotonin balance in the brain, eating a diet that is practically devoid of carbohydrate can cause a drop in brain serotonin levels and result in depression. The sugar cravings dieters experience when they use very-low-carbohydrate diets may be due to low brain serotonin levels. Reintroducing low-GI carbohydrates to the diet can usually cure cravings.

As you say that you just feel tired rather than depressed (the first is a symptom of the second) perhaps you just need to take a supplement, not that I'm saying your Dr is wrong:D but it's worth a try. Also, I would think that you have to balance how you'd feel if you put all your weight back as compared to how you feel being slimmer.

I believe that fluoxetine is another name for prozac.

As if we slimmers don't have enough problems!!!! I'm sorry I can't be of much help.

    xxxx
I wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latter :p but my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!

It might be worth asking your GP to help you find a natural balance before resorting to having to take medicine. Try upping your milk intake as milk contains tryptophan which can be used to make seretonin.

You need to find a balance that is healthy so you can still continue to lose weight but addresses these symptoms.

there are some more mood busting foods here

If you've been keeping a food diary why don't you look through it and compare it to what you used to have before? you might be able to spot where you are lacking in your diet...e.g - If you've cut down on your fats mayb some omega-3's would help

sorry I can't be of more help...I shall trawl the net some more for you

vickyj - I was prescribed fluoxetine for post natal depression and found that one of the good side effects of it was that it helped me lose weight easier at the time.

HOWEVER I don't advocate taking tablets unless you feel you really need them. I would say, if you're following WW it's highly unlikely that your diet is unbalanced but judging from what you've said about your lifestyle, it's entirely possible that you're burned out - and so are exhausted.

Try not burning the candle at both ends for a while (difficult, I know when you're juggling a home, career and kids) but something needs to give. If you can afford it, why not get someone to help you for a couple of hours a week with the housework (this was my intention before OH went off sick) and treat yourself to some quality time.

. At the very least, chocolate is known to raise the seratonin levels in your brain and bloodstream (a VERY good reason for not giving it up).

As Petrichor has said, weigh up how you would feel if you put the weight back on again? bearing in mind that the fluoxetine can help you lose weight (maybe that's why you've been prescribed this brand as opposed to Seroxat or another prozac type drug.
Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.
Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.

Some how I don't think just going 'KICK' will have the same effect as the the dreaded bitey boot.

Top Tip....stop thinking about going to the gym and GO! The amount of times I persuade myself out of things by thinking about them is unreal if you just get up and go you're half way there before you realise it and more often than not enjoying it! things are never quite as bad as you think they will be....

Think of how chuffed you'll be when you can come back and post your treadmill times or equivalent...

been a bit quiet for a few days: just been busy and flaking out when I got home. Been lurking though. Some really great advice and support has been flying around. Well done bails and others for saying 'help'!: i think many of us benefit from the wise words that then flow: I know I do. What a great forum this is. Hope 'day' two has panned out a bit better for you bails. I do think it is easy to forget how cold and viruses can knock the stuffing out of any of us and I'm not suprised you were knocked off plan. You also mentioned it was TOTM I think: which can in my experience make a bad situation just seem hopeless. I have a policy of never taking big decisions or having 'big talks' at that time. Not that I become a knife wielding homicidal maniac, but my emotions can get heightened and in the way.
Feel I haven't responded to loads of people who have posted but I'm well tired. I have deadlines to meet tomorrow so must resist logging on (bet I don't) and then off to see Frankie Boyle in the evening. Should be good for a laugh. Chicken, veg, kidney beans and white wine in casserole and the smell wafting up the stairs is D.licious.

Grannynise: I'm sure I found a website yesterday that said it was essential to eat chocolate for nail repair...now if I could just rememebr where it was...yay.gif
