I need help dont know what to do hopefully I can get some advice from here.
Im a guy in my last year of uni and desperate to loose weight. I dont drink and have always been over weight. I started loosing weight last year when I went veggie but recently went backwards and gained a bit in the holidays. I did use to go gym but it costs a bomb and I feel aukward at start.
I need to loose around 8 stones in total can anyone help with suggestions about what to do?0 -

Well - just back from my first weigh in with the doctor and to say I am shocked is an understatement.
I knew I had been good for almost the whole month and was hoping for a nice surprise when I got on the scales. so I wasn't surprised when she said "well done - youve lost 8". I was delighted and said "that's not bad just over half a stone in my first month"- then she told me no - 8 kilos!!!
I didn't believe her so had to get back on the scales again just in case she had made a mistake but she hadn't.
So thanks to you wonderful people on here for all your moral support I have lost 17.6 lbs in my first month.:T :T :T
I am now a bit worried that it has came off too quickly. I have to go to a civic dinner on Wednesday then I am off to Blackpool for a week and then another weekend away with my pal (who likes to booze and eat) before my next weigh in - what if I have lost it too quickly and the "extra" eating over the next few weeks makes it all go back on again  .
I will need to try extra hard the rest of the time.0 -

Welcome:D suggs and ajax will be able to help you, you are not alone...
From my ideas, start looking in your cupboards and get rid of anything that is high in sugars, calories, fats and replace with healthy options ones, all the supermarkets sell the healthy varieties....drink lots of water, if you can go walking, cycling, running, jogging that is all free....eat lots of fresh foods, veg, salads, low fat soups, high fibres for breakfast, shreddies, oatsosimple, weetabix, eat brown bread, brown pasta, brown rice, watch your portion size, try to borrow a few books from the library and read up on low fat diets, I do WW some others do SW or Rosemary Conley or low carb diets, there are many of them out there so choose which suits you best and you feel you can stick to..
well done anic :j :j :j although you are going to be busy over the next two weeks you can make the low fat low sugar low calorie, less alcohol healthy choices each time you are confronted with food/drink and you will be well away to loose masses more;)0 -
katie - I think I should be ok with the swap boxes. I did a little bit of research last night and had a think today. All I need to do is send my OH out to buy what I need to get and he can post it off for me too. Should be ok. I have a week or more to get it sorted out.
well done anic on a fantastic weighloss. Remember how this feels when you're confronted with temptation in the next few weeks. It'll really help you along.

Welcome to Uni Guy (sorry don't know your username!)
You have definitely found the right place - there are lots of lovely people on here who can offer you loads of helpful advice and support.
The first thing is to try and not be overwhelmed by the weight you want to lose (easier said than done!). Rather than thinking about the whole amount, break it down into small easy targets and then each time you reach one it'll give you the incentive to keep going.
Victory mentioned following a plan, and this is probably the first thing to decide on. You don't have to be a member of any of the clubs to follow their plans - perhaps try just using us as your support to start with and save yourself the weekly fee. Do you have any experience of healthy eating? This isn't meant to sound patronising but sometimes people don't know where to start. If you feel able to come on here and tell us a little more about what you usually eat, we can offer you some more specific advice.
As for the exercise side of things, Victory made some great free suggestions. I would add, do something you ENJOY doing, there's nothing worse than having a hard slog to send you straight down the chip shop:D
Let us know how we can help, and no question is ever a silly one!

Have you checked out any union deals or clubs? I know Manchester have a load of things around for the students. You might be able to find some cheap exercise there as well. sometimes there's student discounts off on the gym and other things. the walking is a good one to build up your fitness first.0 -
