.......you already joined the thread, welcome aboard :)

The next 5lb monthly challenge starts tomorrow so timing is good there. If you want to be added to it, let the thread know by hollering. Hopefully efrieze or delly will see it - they're the chart compilers, and I forget who's doing it this week :).

On that subject efrieze/delly, can you put me down for a 1 lb loss this week please? That's only 4 lbs in the month but for a birthday month and swapping plans I'll settle for that. At least the loss for the week shows (hopefully) that I've settled after moving from WW to SW.

Thanks - would love to be added to monthly 5lb challenge if possible. Good luck to everyone:beer:
    1% challenge - £4018 - reduce by 100 payments of £41.

The curse of the chart! Oh No! I wouldn't have agreed if I had known about that!

Actually, 8 of us (so far) have had maintains this week (full results later tonight, folks). There must be something in the water...perhaps it is due to the weather? Who knows.

I have added you to the chart Queanieviolet and so you will be able to join our October challenge which starts tomorrow.

    Full chart later tonight folks...

    Thanks :T
I am reading through all the posts and trying to get to know you all. Thanks for all the welcomes. I'm following a diet from the Tesco diet website which allows you to select from a range of diets (am doing healthy eating one). Having said that I'm already deviating but hopefully I'll be ok because only adding in the odd bit of fruit.

Evening all. This is my first post of the chart so I hope I have included everyone – if I have left anyone out, please let me know and I apologise in advance.

Firstly, congratulations to our joint SOTW(slimmer of the week) – rachelja and starlight_xxx who both lost an excellent 3.5 lbs and very well done to our SOTM (slimmer of the month) Annie who lost 13.5 lbs in the September challenge (almost a whole stone!).

Congratulations to a1969baby, annie, efrieze, furrypig, grannynise, jenpoptab, justmarried06, nais, notanothergreyhair, pokey128, rachelja, and starlight_xxx for succeeding in the September challange.

The October challenge runs from today (3rd October) for 4 weeks until 31st October. If anyone wants to join in who is not already on the list, just let me know.

Sorry the font is so small on the chart – delly or Lois – I need tips to get it bigger!

    Have a good week everyone.

I am trying to maintain, honest just trying to understand the balance and to be 100% honest I am worried that I might start gaining. Does that make sense? I am getting really anal about it all, working out the calories, trying to ensure I balance the books calorie wise.

I suppose the issue could be I cannot face NOT going to the gym, I know I shouldnt go so often right now or if I should I should cut down on CV work and raise the weight work, but right now I walk in there is every good intention in the world, but once I am on the cycle I seem to be driven to work hard! Does that make sense? am I talking sense?

I hate writing this sort of post as I dont want people to mis read what I am saying, I have always had a weight problem, still do actually, and for once I have found a magic formula to lose weight, oddly though that part is quite easy, now I have to change and make adjustments and I guess I need to take a deep breath and take a gamble, but the formula is more difficult this time as the margain of error is greater. Again I just need to trust myself :)

    Sorry, mini rant over

Hi Suggs - rant away, although I'd view your words as sharing your concerns rather than ranting.

Maintaining isn't easy, and imo one of the plus points of attending a class like SW or WW is that they also encourage members to continue attending once they've reached target weight, free of charge. As someone who is going it alone, you probably have a fear that a little gain will be the first step on a slippery slope back to Suggs + 11 stone.

We all need regular exercise, so continuing at the gym is a good thing. However unless you want to lose more weight, your calorie intake now needs to equal your calorie output. The problem is, it's impossible to work out exactly how many calories you use, so you need to experiment by increasing the calorie intake in small amounts, continuing with weigh ins, and making adjustments if necessary. And you need to give yourself permission to have the occasional gain during the process - you know how to lose weight, so any slight gains can be sorted out by a few 'strict' days. SW allow a margin of 3 lbs either way - why not give yourself that leeway.

You've done amazingly well Suggs - give yourself a huge pat on the back. :)

Q: When you get to your healthy target weight, what’s the best way to maintain it? Should you increase your calorie intake all at once or by so many calories each day?

A: This is a really good question – and congratulations on hitting target, or at least almost being there. After weeks, months or even years of controlling your calorie intake, knowing what to do when you hit target can be scary but you can’t stick with your dieting calorie allowance forever.

While some successful slimmers prefer to immediately increase their calorie intake, others prefer to do it in steps. In many ways, this is a good idea as it helps you to concentrate on getting your extra calories by gradually increasing the portion sizes of the foods you’re already eating rather than suddenly adding in chocolate, crisps, booze and takeaways. I recommend this five-step plan to maintain your new healthier weight.
    Five Step Plan

Step 1 Once you reach target, add 250 calories a day to your existing daily calorie intake. This means if you’ve been having 1,250 calories each day, you should now have 1,500 calories a day.

Step 2 After a week, weigh yourself on your usual scales. You’ll probably have lost a little more weight. If so, add another 250 calories to last week’s daily allowance. So, if you were having 1,500 calories a day, now have 1,750 calories daily.

Step 3 After a week, weigh yourself again. If you’ve lost more weight, add an extra 250 calories to your daily intake, for example from 1,750 calories to 2,000 calories each day.

Step 4 After a week, if your weight has stabilised that’s the amount of calories you need each day to keep your new slim shape. If you’ve gained a tiny amount, drop your daily calorie intake by 100 calories, for example, from 2,000 calories to 1,900 calories daily. After a week, weigh yourself again. If your weight has stayed the same, that’s the amount of calories you need each day for weight maintenance. If your weight has gone up or down, juggle your daily calorie intake by 50 calories a day until your weight eventually stabilises.

Step 5 Weigh yourself once a week on your usual scales until you are confident that you’re maintaining your healthy weight.

Found this on a diet website, read it many times and it makes sense, it is just finding the right balance, magic formula indeed;)
