I had a look at the Readers Digest article and here are some of the more easily made changes to help lose weight:
1.Add some protein – the more you eat earlier, the less you eat as the day wears on. So after your cereal, add a hard boiled egg or a mini Babybel light cheese to keep you feeling full and stop snacking before lunchtime. (this can save you up to 200 cals on snacking later).
2.Portion out your days snacks into sandwich bags or buy single –serving portions (not very MSE I know, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices!) For example , if you choose a snack size mars bar over the regular size, you can save 100 calories.
3.Wear more casual clothes to work – you’ll burn more calories wearing comfy clothes and trainers rather than suits and heels because you’ll be more inclined to walk more (see, dress down Fridays are a good thing!) Apparently this can burn an extra 25 calories per day
4.Stand up when you talk on the phone, pace around burns approximately 50 cals per day or more!
5.Pick a pitta for lunch – one mini whole-wheat pitta instead of two slices of white bread saves 70 calories
6.Eat more apples – they’re packed with fibre and water so your stomach will want less (tip: pears have even more fibre than apples – fill you up even more!) Two small apples instead of 2 large biscuits should save you 100 calories per day)
7.Blotting your pizza slice with a napkin should cut up to a tablespoon of oil (saves 50 – 100 calories)
8.Try on at least 10 outfits when you’re out shopping (but don’t buy them) should burn 60 calories (another reason for retail therapy)
9.Replace a quarter pounder with cheese meal for the happy meal saves approximately 390 calories
10.Do the junk mail jog – for every piece of junk mail you receive do 1 lap of your home or up and down a flight of stairs. Burns 35 – 140 calories. (no cheating and registering with the mailing preference service to stop all the junk mail)
11.Start with soup – order a clear soup instead of salad with full fat dressing and you’ll save twice the calories plus you’ll eat less when the main meal comes. (saves 100 calories)
12.Climb up the stairs – going up the stairs for a total of 2 minutes 5 days per week gives the same calorie burning results s a 20 minute walk (100-140 calories)
13.If you fancy cake – have swiss roll. It’s packed with air and has half the calories of a Victoria Sponge (saves 100 cals)
14.Sprinkle fresh fruit with some splenda, cover and microwave for a minute or so – replaces that craving for apple pie and can save up to 275 calories.
15.Instead of ordering fries, get onion rings (saves 60 calories)
16.Swap your ice cream craving for sorbet – and save 125 calories
And especially for Dragon¸ Ajax and Suggs – and all others who indulge in a bit of Scrabble...
17.Instead of a treat at bedtime, have some energetic bedtime aerobicsand burn up to 300 calories a go!
Making small changes and choices like these can save you or burn off around 3500 calories over a week which would equal to a 1lb weight loss.
I found it interesting enough to keep the article. I hope you guys find it useful too. By the way, there were over 50 tips in total but I just chose those I think that people would actually try to do rather than butt clenches in traffic or advertisement crunches.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -

Not a happy Dragon - in fact this Dragon is sulking
Don't sulk dragon;) next week is coming and the weight loss is going to be HUGE;)
a1 1/2 LB is still fab, off not on, fab;)
delly I would like to say that I do all those points but would be lying:rotfl: :rotfl: some diets as well as the rest of europe that eat at midday, swear by eating all the carbohydrates, heavy foods at lunch time so that the body has the rest of the day to burn it off....my friend in Spain is very svelte but her brothers aren't so that blows that theory out of the window:rotfl: :rotfl:
I do eat pitta now more than bread, all the family have converted and it is wholemeal pitta or multi-grain wraps, I walk and work while I am on the phone, great at multi-tasking me!!, love apples, always have soup for starters (that is a WW tip, water based foods fill you up more) always climb stairs if I can so I am not doing so bad on the points...0 -
Hello all, I've been away for while, my week off from work knocked my routine out of wack!
I'm back now and SERIOUSLY need to get back in to the system. The weight has started creeping up and I'm only 4.6 lbs off the weight I started on! I suppose I should just be greatful that I've not gone ALL the way back up. Also I reckon my TOTM is just around the corner, as I've been ravenous and I'm feeling bloated. Does anyone have any tips for fighting off the hunger? I always crave things like curries, bangers & mash, pasta, spag bol.
I want to get back on track and get down to 16 stone by 12th of October, which gives me 19 days to loss about 9 lbs! It maybe impossible but anywhere close would be great.

Feeling quite sorry for myself as I've got the beginnings of freshers flu.
Got a nice cup of lemsip tho...so hopefully that will make the throat razor blades go away.
Had some nice oat so simple porridge this morning...it came with nut and seed sprinkles with 'sprinkling directions' on the back...haven't really stopped laughing at that one...how daft do the marketing people think we are!!
Hope you feel better soon. DS has been trying to give me his cold but I think I've fought it off.
I bought some salmon tonight for tea in a clear selophane (not sure of spelling) topped tray - on the back it said 'allergy warning: may contain fish' - I should jolly well hope so :rotfl:

....one of them this week is going to be their choc cake made with raw beetroot!! but I bet the kids will love it if they don't know what is made of!!
Hi Victory
Let us know what that tastes like, it looks great in the book - my only worry is that the recipe is for 16 portions and part of my problem has been 'portion control' more than anything. With 4 of us eating it should last 4 days (can't see that happening and at over 300 cals per portion it could soon add up).
I tend to serve up my meals on DS's old Thomas the Tank Engine melamine plate - I can't overload it because it's just not big enough.
