bails - I'm sorry to hear of your trouble with your MiL - we all have them. (as do our partners, maybe you should remind your OH if he's ever had any run ins with your mum?)

Feel free to moan and groan about her as often as you like. I know that I've used this forum to offload anger/hurt often enough in the past. Sometimes it's better to offload to a load of "strangers" anyway as we don't know your MiL.

As for your difficulties. I have to say from personal experience, they can go on for a VERY long time unless you take a stand with her. Of course, you need 100% of your partner's support and you really need to pick your battles (as in make sure it's worth it). The other option is, when you have to see her, be EXCEEDINGLY polite and try and avoid her where possible.

Oh, and as I said before, use us as a means to offload and rant rather than your OH. It'll just put his back up and you want to be seen to be the reasonable one in all of this.

    Hope things get better soon.

The MiL is drving me to distraction, after trying v hard not to I have now fallen out with OH about it (playing right into her hands of course) and I can feel myself starting to get ill again from all the stress. Gutted. Things have been v difficult since we got back from India; it can't go on much longer, can it?

Hi bails, as others have said: no need to apologise - you give loads to this forum and anyway being able to support each other gives me a goodfeeling and I'm sure others too.
If you'd just tell me your m-i-l's address I could pop round there right now and accidently trip up with a lit match and create a reason for her to be called home suddenly...
Really sorry the stress is making you ill. This is not good. How much longer is she staying???

OOh ooh forgot to say, got home to find my swap box has arrived :j :j . Very tigger excited. The restraint not to open it is immense :D . Better than Xmas

Oh thankyou Delly, I really appreciate that.

The thing is, my mum and OH get on really well so he can't relate! He knows she is very difficult but there's so much only child/single parent dependency going on it's a minefield. I bend over backwards to make sure she's as happy as possible all the time but I've had enough this time - she's ruining our Christmas and it's not even here yet! My whole family have even offered to change all their plans to keep her sweet but I've put my foot down - the sooner she's stood up to, the sooner things will improve.

God, I only pray that I don't become a nightmare MiL one day!! :D

Eating's out the window  Hope to get it back on track asap.

I received a letter from the secretary of state today thanking me for all my hard work and of course I cried buckets. So good luck and I hope it goes really well for you.

That's a very tough thing to go though poohbear: the grief of losing your career (let alone income) is very real I know. :grouphug: . Well done for working at your exercise routine:T : might not seem much to the able, but takes a lot of determination when you feel ill as you do. Hope you get to go in the pool again soon. Great you see the benefits

Swap box done. I find these things very hard to do, cos I worry that what I think is nice and fun, other people think is cr#p. Anyway, to the recipient...I tried.

BTW Are we supposed to say in the box who it is from?

I'm a MiL  ..... oh I must be awful. It is a minefield trying to do it properly, but I rely entirely on my DD telling me what to do /say most of the time. And then I get it wrong.
Can I just say in defence of the great tribe of MiLs that we didn't exactly choose to turn into monsters ... our sons and daughters did it to us. (and anyway MY MiL was far worse than anyone's ;) )

I'll get my broomstick and go now.

or could we wait and see if the recipient likes it first? I'm a bit scared too.

Ha ha, liking the broomsticks - I was going to call her a witch earlier but didn't want to offend anyone!:D

Oh goodness, I think I might be the only one who hasn't sorted their swop box yet... sorry! I'm just waiting for divine inspiration of course...;)

Stop worrying everyone, it'll be fun whatever's in the box (unless it comes MiL shaped and then I'm running, fast!:rotfl:) BB, you're probably the only one who could make that remotely possible so in the nicest possible way, I hope you don't have me!!

OH and I have joined forces once more and Christmas is back to the original plan - now we're just bracing ourselves for the hysterical phonecall...

Waterloo Rd got my pulse racing as usual. Almost tempted to apply for this 0.4 English post that's coming up for January but will be a good girl and be sensible  Getting my teaching books out again can't hurt that much though can it...:D [Geek alert!:rotfl:]
