Hey Emmalis, welcome to the group! This is definitely the place to come for lots of help and support, the people on here are lovely!
If you want to follow a GL diet as suggested by julesgr, then I can definitely recommend the Patrick Holford Low GL Diet cookbook - the recipes are very simple (I'm certainly no cook!) and every one I've tried so far has been yummy!
That's where my menu plan came from Serendis, all very simple but tasty (and there are loads of meat dishes too - I'm not veggie (yet) but my OH is).
BB, I love the idea of 'reclaiming my body', how cool is that?! I love autumn leaves too, except when I'm kicking them up and stand in some dog poo!:rotfl:
Dragon, can you feel the vibes? Moving is always v disruptive but now you've got the last of it out of your flat, you can start tomorrow. Lots of ingredients for simple meals to hand and you'll be fine. Good luck!
Off for a shiatsu from my OH now (no Ajax, it's not a new position!), being spoilt...:D xx (ps internet still dodgy so if you don't hear from me that'll be why. Don't want to miss the weigh-in though!)The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Well went for a 4.5 mile walk and feel virtuous. Am now back to menu planning - trying to come up with new ideas for the slow cooker. Have found a veggie tikka masala which sounds good.
SW chips, beans and cold turkey for dinner tonight. Yum. Tomorrow will be baked pot for lunch with masses of very low fat cottage cheese and 42g 1/2 fat mature cheddar (HEb on SW) with salad and sprouted seeds) and eve = slow cooked pork, apricot & prune casserole with green beans & brockli.
Emmalis: I'm not mad about veg but I find if I pile my plate up with stuff I do like (which on SW you can eat a satisfying plateful) then eating a bit of steamed green veg with each mouthful disguises it!. Or try grating 42g 1/2 fat mature cheddar (you are allowed this everyday on SW) on to green veg: makes it taste much better! I eat loads more now than I used to :A
Hang on in there Dragon: moving is just difficult. Soon be over and a proper day one start again. No point beating yourself up when there's little chance of good eating patterns being re established until a big Sains shop.
bbI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
welcome emma:D :j :j
Just had the roast, the veg were lovely, the chicken fab with the lemon, thyme, rosemary rub, the gravy as per the recipe was very acidic and tart and did not go down too well and the pots, well something happened to them where they became tasteless, I reckon it was cutting right back on the fat and they ended up as boiled pots done in the oven really but all in all it was a fab healthy eating fat free low in calories sunday roast and highly recommended:D
Now the family are going to tuck into apple and blackberry crumble made by my fair hands but not for me with sugar free dream topping . Kids keep going into the kitchen to see if it is ready yet:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
happy birthday for yesterday Delly!!! Hope you had a wonderful wonderful day and that you are making a quick recovery. We're all hoping to see you back on here soon.
Welcome Emma - have you tried making soup? My OH won't eat vegetables at all, his philosophy is that meat goes green when it's bad hence if it's green to start with it must already be bad. But he will eat virtually anything if i put it in a soup - he actually picked up a butternut squash in the supermarket the other day. I had to go for a lie down to recover.
Less said about food this weekend the better. Went on the black sheep brewery tour in masham and it all went downhill from the free tasters. And i didn't even think i liked beer. off to the naughty corner i go to focus on day one tomorrow. . .0 -
Hi Folks,
thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a quiet day yesterday. Spent it with DS and OH as I had planned my treat for today, but it didn't quite turn out the way I had hoped.... I was at an Angel Quest day and all I can say was it was a total waste of 40 quid:mad: . I'd have been better off spending the money on clothes. I haven't even eaten healthily today. THe buffet lunch was awful. Hard bread on the sandwiches that we could find, not so much as a wiff of a vegetable, chicken goujons and cocktail sausages that were so greasy that I had to try and absorb some of the fat on a couple of napkins (except for the ones that were undercooked, I'm really hoping I don't get food poisioning) - and this supposedly from a 4 star hotel:mad: . Mega unhappy as you can imagine. And to make things worse, I couldn't take all my pain meds today because they make me dopey and I wanted to be able to pay attention- now I feel like I've been kicked by a horse and OH didn't even keep me dinner. So, one packet of supernoodles later I'm feeling quite ill (and not very happy as you may have gathered).
bails - I'm glad you're feeling better. I always love this time of year (not least because it's my birthday) the weather is always better and I just love the crispness of the air.
welcome emmalis - I'm sure Efrieze will include you on the chart when she gets back.
dragon - don't worry, You'll soon get back on track. Just look at this time as a blip to be overcome when you get settled.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -
Hi folks
Have not been on much in last two weeks - just popping on very quickly to post my weight loss (or not:o ) each Wednesday.
Can I ask, I remember reading a tip from someone about 2 weeks ago - sorry but cannot remember whoand am chasing about tonight so no time to look back properly - about roasted chickpeas with spices as an alternative nibble to nuts etc. I gave it a try with some indian spices and, although very tasty, they did not go crispy as I expected them to but rather stayed quite soft.
Is this right or did I just not cook them long enough or hot enough? Thanks
Diet still going badly, or to be truthful, not at all! Still not really bothered settling to any one plan so am dodging about doing meals from this one, mixed with snacks from that and it is all not very productive.
Did a massive clearout of bedroom yesterday - dust you could have stuffed pillows with:eek: - and found my long lost RC folder under the dark recesses of the bed. This is a loose leaf A4 folder in which I used to gather together all the RC breakfasts, lunches, main meals etc out of various books/magazines because I got sick of thinking 'Which magazine was that really nice BBQ chicken recipe in again....':p . It even has the sections sectioned ie fruit based breakfasts, cereal based breakfast, cooked breakfasts, chicken based main meals, vegetarian main meals etc etc:A :A
Guess this means I have now no excuse but to try the RC one again, if only for ease, and the fact that I have already tried many of the recipes and know the ones I like best!:D (Like the curried turkey and mushroom burgers - even better chopped up cold through a salad that they are hot:D (and they're rather good hot too;) )
Good luck everyone else
Regards

Hi Jules
Original recipe was for Tandoori Beef and mushroom burgers but can substitute the beef for turkey mince. Original recipe makes 8 burgers and 2 count for 266kcal/10g fat so made with turkey mince they are def lower but not sure how much - sure I had it jotted down somewhere but can't find. Anyway recipe to serve 4 as follows:
1lb extra lean minced beef or turkey, 1 tblsp chopped mixed fresh herbs, 1 med onion finely chopped, 8oz chestnut mushrooms finely chopped, 2 tsp veg boullion powder, 2oz fresh breadcrumbs, 2 crushed cloves garlic, 1tblsp tandoori curry powder, freshly ground black pepper
Mix meat, onion, mushroom and garlic tog in a large bowl, making sure well combined. Add curry, boullion powder, and stir well. Add herbs, breadcrumbs and seasoning and mix thoroughly. Make into 8 balls then flatten each between your hands and cook under a hot grill 8-10 mins each side. Pull one apart to check cooked all way through.
Then you just need to allow for whatever you serve with them - RC suggest 6oz baked potato and mixed salad.
Hope it works for you
Katyk
PS I always make too many cos they freeze really well!0 -
Hi everyone I have been 'on hold' for about 4 months due to illness and have managed to put on 21 pounds! I am alot better now and really need to lose the weight. Would it be ok to re-join?
I am going to start dieting tomorrow and I am planning to do weight watchers as I still have the books but not sure if I want to join a ww group yet. I don't recognise many of the names and not sure who i need to ask?
