Hang on, let's be fair, other bits not withstanding -

I'd be annoyed if I'd said no more cake, and someone gave my child more cake.

Wow, if my & my folks fell out every time they gave my kids an extra slice of cake or sweets we would genuinely never speak.

Its a grandparents job to spoil their grandchildren.

Would you also put tomatos on your plate in your own home even though you thought they were vile . That's not normal behaviour for a thirty something woman in her own kitchen.

I wonder if the OP has some issues about food going on and this was the trigger point.

Maybe OP was very polite and cooked a meal everyone loves, which includes tomatoes, or maybe her mum cooked it and brought it over. Still, I do struggle what lesson you are trying to teach your kids when forcing them to eat something when you are yourself not doing so.

I think I would have found it hard to bit by tongue and not say something back especially if the kid was spoken to in a harsh tone in front of such inconsistency.

I worked twelve hour days last week so I was stressed . It didn't give me the excuse to be rude to people. Three children badly spaced is as much a choice as me doing overtime , others shouldn't be made to suffer the consequence of someone else's choice, family or not.

How apt that this should all have taken place on Remembrance Sunday since memories are likely all you will have left if you stand on your pride and refuse to countenance any move to repair the damage.

You might have been wiser to have an actual argument over who-does-what-and-when than to have thrown that cutting and unmistakable comment "bye then" into the gathering. Those words cannot be interpreted to mean anything other than a command to leave or are you one of those people who decides that a word means whatever you decree it shall mean on any given occasion? You know ... like those men who contend that 'no' means 'yes' if the girl is drunk enough.

Write to your father and say that the two of you may have to agree to disagree over the disregard of your wishes in relation to the children but that you went too far with that curt, smart alec dismissal and for that you apologise.

If you can't find it within yourself to do so, it may not be just Christmas you are saying goodbye to but the entire family.

Bet the OP wishes she had never posted on here.

On the contrary. I imagine they are delighted with the responses so far.

Stress doesn't excuse rudeness. Stress does cause people to behave irrationally.
