If you are lucky enough to make contact with a person!! Have given up going through the options (tried several - none lead to a human who picks up). Rang my LA and they sighed in despair about it. DD has been unable to register on the correct day for the 2nd year running.

Perhaps we should all apply for our loans NOW for next year? That would give them a better chance surely.

I don't use the 0845 number. I have a local number for my county's Student Finance office.

Is it your Student Services, as our local LA one is called, or a branch of slc? My Student services are v helpful but in the end can only read out what the slc has done, or not, or said they've done!
  • My LEA has been taken over by a pilot centre, so now local people to hassle for my loan.

    It's bloody annoying.

Try not pressing anything - a lot of touch tone systems will prompt you a couple of times and then connect you to an operator on the assumption your phone doesn't support tone dialling.

Yes, tried that, but it takes you through menu again, and as I was at work was on mobile. My LEA said that today they were not answering the phones anyway and there was a block on accounts. I certainly couldn't get into either mine or DD's during office hours, but could very early morning.

I got a letter yesterday saying if I took it to Durham then I would get my loan (*I think*)
  • I had to hand mine into student services. They checked my ID card and wrote my student number on the letter and said it'll be with me in 3 to 5 days. Im living off my student overdraft until then.

I didn't hand it in until Wednesday, if I had known it was gonna take 5 days I would have gone in on Monday to do everything
