  • We received our daughters letter today with the first payment going in on the 24th Sept even though she enrolled on Monday this week. I think the people going through clearing have mostly had the delay, the finance dept allowed her to enroll without the letter arriving which they will now get tomorrow. The first tuition fee (half total amount) is not scheduled to be paid direct to the uni until 6th Feb. I'm not sure when they will take out the first accomodation payment (now on DD) but the overdraft facility set up will cover her if it's taken before 24th Sept. So provided you've applied for your overdrafts (hopefully at 0%) then you will be ok.
PS we did have to pay an accomodation deposit of £200 on the first day.

Two weeks is a long time if you have no money.
It's "character building" ... and I bet you sent him off with a hamper of beans/bread/biscuits. He'll live. Everybody's in the same boat.
  • Hi, my son has sent back the form stating the loans he will be getting for the course, were we supposed to tell them his bank account no or will they send a cheque for the maintenance part?

My son had to pay a £200 deposit as soon as he accepted the uni course and obviously new needed the accomodation.

The first term installment had to be paid by the 14th September and he doesn't register till Monday 24th Sept, his freshers week.

He hasn't had his payment schedule through yet, but were not panicking.

  • I applied ages ago, havent got a letter and enrolled today was told they need it asap or I will get billed for the course. On the slc website it says Ive been approved for the maintanance grant due on the 19th. I'd planned around this and when I went to the bank I nearly cried when they said nothing had gone in. Now I have no food and my rent is due on saturday :(

The Student Tuition Fee Loan goes straight to the University. It should tell you on the SLC site you have been approved for this loan too.

You mention grant, did you apply for the tuition fee loan and/or maintenence loan.

I believe it is stated as blocked on the site until the registration details get to them.

You need to give them a ring. They are very easy to talk to and can explain everything in simple terms. It will give you peace of mind.

The best thing is not to panic, talk to the student union about whats happening. They will be able to advice you too.
