    ''Christmas Story''
A warning to us lads/ladettes - watch out for fallen angels at Christmas and don't order any champagne (cheap plonk) at any of these establishments - ask to see the price list and get a receipt - even for a glass of beer -
someone's got to pay for the entertainment, a deer do!
    Lessons have been learnt :D

  • As others have said, card companies can now say exactly when and where cards were used, and whether it was chip and pin/signature/tap and go.

If your partner is saying they cant say when and where it was used then there is something strange going on.

I had an incident of fraud on my debit card, I was informed that it was used at X place at X time and that was online, they didn't have the PIN so they tried a signature at another place.

They have detailed records of when and where the cards are used, whatever your partner is saying.

I note you are saving for your wedding. PLEASE get this cleared up before you marry him because what he is telling you simply does not make sense.

This is not meant as an insult, it is simply fact that every transaction is trackable these days, you cannot make a transaction without the card company knowing where and when.

If fraud is suspected the card companies are on to it super quick these days, the FCA throws all sorts at companies that do not respond to fraud. You say "we" contacted the ombudsman months ago, did you see the letter go or did your partner tell you it had?

I'm sorry if you think this is insulting, but the questions have to be asked because the facts as presented simply do not add up.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

Think OP doesn't want to hear what she suspects

    The giveaway being:

But please can anyone who stupidly thinks that my partner cheated on me NOT reply to my thread anymore. This accusations are ridiculous and not true and are just plain offensive.

He didn't cheat. Unless leering is cheating.

But I'm 99% sure he's lying. And if he is, and is now trying to extract money out of barclaycard too, he's a crook.

I don't think hes contacted Barclaycard at all, as the responses and even the "intitial" text don't add up for me

    I'm inclined to agree.

I'm not sure if we're meant to be talking to barclaycard anymore now the financial ombudsman are investigating the bank. I will ask them about the interest before transferring it to a 0% card.

What was BC's final response? This would have been in writing, something you need before taking a complaint to FOS.
Have you seen their final response?
    Have you spoken to FOS?
It seems you are providing details which are contradictory. eg FOS are investigating the bank (they look at the complaint not the bank) and how to I contact them by writing (a complaint would have a final response in writing)

ETA - long gone are the times banks were only open from 9 - 5
And someone mentioned you can communicate with barclaycard via writing? How do we do this please as this would be extremely helpful. I meant he has had to use hours of holiday as only gets a 30 minute lunch break and works Monday to Friday (opening times of the bank!)

OP, in simple terms, your OP isn't telling you the truth. It doesn't take this long to investigate transactions, the fact that Barclays aren't refunding indicates the transactions were PIN verified so the card was definitely there when they were made. Why does you OH call Barclays when he's at work ? Have you actually heard him call Barclays ? He must have had a day off since December last year when he could have called and you could have been there to prompt him ? Going to a lap dancing club isn't cheating, but i'd worry more about the fact that he feels he can't tell you the truth.

Have you asked him if he was there ? The majority of this type of establishment have CCTV, it's too late now but you could have reported it to the police and they could have proved it wasn't your OH who used his card. If my OH had a large amount of money taken from a credit card i would have been all over it the next day, my Google search took a matter of seconds to show who the merchant was.

Your OH is spinning you a line, you aren't going to get the money back, accept it. But i'd be very wary in future about anything he tells you.

Op in your first post, you put that 'we' have opened a balance transfer card, can I ask is this in your name? If it it I was strongly advise you not to transfer the money into your name.
Banks know where the card has been used, my husband had his card cloned and they knew all of the details. We got the money back within two weeks.
The bank could very well have messaged your boyfriend to check about activity on the card if it was unusual, but everything else sounds like a cover by your boyfriend to try to throw you off finding out what actually happened.
Please think of this if it was a friend telling you the story, how would you see it?

    Good luck with it.
