Stolen barclaycard £1400 - help!

Reminds me of a story I heard from a tour guide when I visited Amsterdam’s RLD. Her landlord was the owner of a famous bar/stripclub out there. She recanted a tale he told of there was one guy who tried to claim back 3k Euros from his credit card after waking up the next morning and seeing lots of receipts in his pocket. He went back to the club in question accusing them of all sorts and angrily demanding a refund. The club owner assured him that he would do all he could to help if there genuinely was fraud committed and proceeded to show him the CCTV footage of that night, which also included the outside footage of across the street where the ATM was. Suffice to say it was the man in question who was quite happily paying for dances with multiple women and when his card was flagged/blocked at the terminal, he proceeded to wander outside to withdraw cash instead. Needless to say the bloke was embarrassed and an expensive lesson was learned that day. :rotfl:
OP could something similar have happened to your partner and he’s too ashamed to admit it to you? Especially given that you are planning to get married soon and the length of time this matter has been dragging on for.
There are just too many inconsistencies in his story. You can call Barclaycard in the evening so need for him to be taking extra time off as holiday to deal with this. Also, it doesn’t ring true about how the whole thing has been handled from start to finish, especially given that it’s 11 months later and you are still trying to sort it out when Barclaycard appear to have washed their hands of the matter.
I don’t know of any company in this day and age who still accepts signature for card payment. Not unless the PIN facility isn’t working for whatever reason, even then most businesses would just opt to use another card terminal first and signature would be suggested as a very last resort.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Well not relevant here I know but in the US your chip and pin will rarely work which makes it so much fun... But most of their signature machines are digital so I doubt any of mine REALLY look like my signature LOL
In the UK it's usually only if connection to the mothership is down for any reason that signature is reverted to. It happens - just not often!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

After reading everything it's quite clearly nothing adds up if it was stolen why didn't you go to the police as report it most people would of.
I am going with that you are in with it and involved in the fraud, what clearly happen is he was drunk, ended up on the lap dancing club over spent on dances and champagne, gone home work up regretted what he has done, he either told you and you both had a argument and you refused to pay the money on the card so you made up it was stolen to the bank.
Or you found the receipts and had a argument and refused to pay it so said to bank it was stolen.
I wonder why you didn't go to the police mmm because the cctv would show your boyfriend being there at the time.
Case over your both bad as each other and deserve what comes.0 -

So your theory is that the OP has attempted to commit fraud, and has come to an anonymous internet forum to make up an unbelievable story, to try to convince a load of strangers that she hasn't attempted to commit fraud.
According to your theory, why is she doing that?0 -
She's not coming back is she?

Of course we had to pay interest so not to get a black mark on our credit score as we are hoping to buy a house in the near future so we can't afford to do that. They know it was a company called EA promotions but said lots of the business in Lowestoft use that company and so they can't trace exactly where it was used. That's all it says on the statements is EA promotions. I've tried googling but nothing. All the bank ever say is that they're looking into into which they aren't doing. Same with the financial ombudsman. They haven't been able to give us any more information despite calling every day.
every single chip and pin terminal has got a unique id number, just like a mobile phone, this will be linked with the merchant details, along with being linked to the merchant account of the seller so they know where to send the completed funds to.
there is zero percent change that they dont know where it was use, the exact time, and the exact terminal it was used on.
That is a complete certainty, their back end will show all of this information immediately.0 -
OP, in simple terms, your OP isn't telling you the truth. It doesn't take this long to investigate transactions, the fact that Barclays aren't refunding indicates the transactions were PIN verified so the card was definitely there when they were made. Why does you OH call Barclays when he's at work ? Have you actually heard him call Barclays ? He must have had a day off since December last year when he could have called and you could have been there to prompt him ? Going to a lap dancing club isn't cheating, but i'd worry more about the fact that he feels he can't tell you the truth.
Have you asked him if he was there ? The majority of this type of establishment have CCTV, it's too late now but you could have reported it to the police and they could have proved it wasn't your OH who used his card. If my OH had a large amount of money taken from a credit card i would have been all over it the next day, my Google search took a matter of seconds to show who the merchant was.
Your OH is spinning you a line, you aren't going to get the money back, accept it. But i'd be very wary in future about anything he tells you.
lap dancing and other places will likely keep CCTV for ages, I mean over a year or longer for these exact reasons, when people do charge backs when their partners find out about these 'fraudulent' transactions.
I know one well known place in the midlands that keeps their CCTV footage for 6 years, statute of limitations, to cover them for any potential court cases where charge backs fail and the alleged wronged party attempts to take them to court, its helped them out MANY MANY times having CCTV footage from years ago.0
