No. The MSE Money Tips email that I just got make little mention of ROAMING or the cost of calls while abroad.
To make a valid comparison you have to delve into the details of each plan. To me that makes the recommendations a bit redundant.

Er... anyone who simply orders something based a a MSE recommednation is asking to pay more. Their energy club assured me I'd save a lot by switching, when in fact it would have cost me substantially more. Whatever MSE (or anyone else) recommends (often when there is something in it for them) you should ALWAYS do the math yourself beforehand.
  • Just wanted to check something out. I use my mobile very little so a pay as you go sim from three sounds OK for me.
Now I just wanted to check the tricky bit
    Data is 1p per MB
    A text is 2p
    a single MMS is 40p
If I had a photo I might want to send size 0.5MB (500KB) and I am out of range of WiFi so the phone is connected to WiFI via my SIM and I send the photo using Facebook Messenger app do I pay for 0.5MB = half a pence or is it a 40p MMS?
If I have a cheap android phone (Blackview) and I send a text thinking it is an SMS at 2p and say I add an emoji will it change to an MMS and be 40p.
Is there a setting in android to forbid it to send an MMS under any circumstance.
ie is there a way to be sure to avoid that expensive 40p MMS charge.

MSE should investigate or remove SMARTY from their best deals offer. They DO NOT OFFER ANY DATA SERVICE AT ALL.

I was with SMARTY for the last month and they are appalling. I received no data coverage at all from Northampton to Kettering and Northampton to Coventry. This includes being around the city centre and on Warwick University. The phone is a new Iphone X which had used a 3 Mobile Sim in it where it functioned perfectly well and had reasonable signal and data coverage. They sent me a new SIM which had the exact same issues. The Customer Services Team have pre-programmed responses where they clearly know the coverage is close to non-existant as they kept saying that a signal mast was down in the area. However speaking to their various colleagues on numerous occasions they said there were no masts down.

I should also point out that when the phone does say there is a 3G / 4G connection. It is more often 3G and also it still does no connect to the internet at all..

They are a poor company offering no real service, less than limited coverage and no customer service. MSE should not be affiliated in my opinion.
  • Normally MSE offers deals that can't be beaten via Quidco or anywhere else but the current 3 £8 8gb deal with £10 cashback through Fonehouse can be beaten simply by following the link but then click "SIM ONLY" at the top of the Fonehouse page, then scroll down to see the same £8 8gb deal but with £60 cashback, works out to £3 a month although it's one of those wriggly "claim in the following months" arrangements.

That offer no longer available ?
  • Has anybody done the Sky Mobile 3gb data for £6 a month deal recently? Martin has included this deal in the article on the main site and I was tempted before but today I noticed that Topcashback were offering £30 cashback on this deal so for 6gb at an equivalent £3.50 a month, I finally jumped. It has tracked but only at £10?? so was just wondering if anyone else has done this lately?

Saw the post on MSE with an O2 sim deal for 20GB a month, £20/month with Umm £140? Cashback.
Received sim yesterday and rang O2 up this afternoon to cancel.

I have a dual sim phone so was doing speedtests throughout the day whilst in different places. EE was constantly considerably better. EE peaked at 90mbps on one test. The main problem for O2 is that sometimes I wouldn't even get 1mbps... This is terrible. Despite no network issues shown on the site and my area showing as 4g indoor and outdoor.

Managed to get £6 off a month on my EE bill. Albeit went from 20gb/£20 to 10gb/£12 but I typically don't use 7GB anyway so this is fine.

    Hi Everyone,

I am currently with a £6 something a month Virgin sim contract but need to renew.

Went to Fonehouse but the 3 deal now appears to be £24 cashback. I thought then, when the monthly costs were listed in terms of popularity, that Vodaphone Red Plans were the best deals. However when I listed by "actual monthly cost" that doesn't seem to be the case - or doesn't "actual monthly cost" include cash back?

    https://www.fonehouse.co.uk/best-sim-only-deals

Otherwise I clicked on the Money Saving Expert recommendation for Sky Mobile of £6 a month 3GB for 12 months I can't find it on the Sky website.

Can anyone help with either or both? Thanks so much! :)

Easy at present with cashback contracts - lots of similar ones with various bundles/networks at present:-

Naturally, the monthly costs are much higher but I never do anything else - and it does depend on you thoroughly understanding how cashback contracts work. You can also sell the phone - so I always go for the cheapest deal with the most expensive phone, aiming to make a profit rather than actually incur a cost for my contracts.
