NTL: I've just saved £120 per yr with 1 phonecall

No aggressive calls required - it is worth remembering that customer service staff are only doing their job and we have a choice to use NTL or not at the advertised price. However, it doesn't stop you honestly trying to get a discount ;D.
I chatted to a very pleasant member of their support team today as I was reviewing my outgoings (Phone/Family Pack/300K bb at around £40 per month). I didn't threaten to leave, I was just enquiring how to reduce my bills by potentially removing non-essentials which we were honestly considering doing given the fall in price of Freeview boxes (Family pack is good value if you want all the channels, but reasonably expensive, IMHO, if you only really want UK Gold and a couple of other channels not in the base pack, and not the other channels that we never watch).
They offered £10 off the family pack for six months :o - better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick and apparently we will also be getting upgraded to 1MB/sec broadband automatically at the end of January (sure I read in a press release that existing customers were to be charged £25 for this? Personally would have been annoyed if I had, given there are now better/cheaper packages on the market) .
I didn't think it was worth pursuing further as that seemed reasonable (but I note that others have 12 months offered and an upgrade/reduction in the price of the broadband package, therefore may be worth calling back sooner or later?). Why didn't I notice this thread two months ago when it started ... :-/
Many thanks
Mr B
PS - Does anyone know if you can have other broadband companies (ie all these good value high speed packages on the market) if all your telco is NTL based? I notice many state BT lines only.0 -
Very well said Mr B.
To re-iterate.....I managed to get the 12 months @£18.99 p/m for the 1.5mb service as previously stated on this site. Its well worth ringing up if you have yet to do so.
I then followed it up a few days later, with another call regarding my phone services....got that reduced too.
I only hope that when the broadband upgrade occurs in Jan they dont say I have to pay the full rate as its a change in service and I am able to carry on paying the £18.99 for 3mb download!! hehe!!Beware Lego Men with Deep pockets...! :cool:0 -

the think is 3 months ago i have lost my job and need to cut back. rang up ntl and the chap i talked to was very helpful but could do nothing for me. Told me to ring another number and speak to customer relations who should help. Well i rang them but they were closed. Will call them next week and see what they can offer.
Do you reckon they will offer me something because i have a minimum spec package?Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

when i told the customer relations about my circumstances he told me that all he is allowed to discount was a maximum of £10 a month. That for a whole year. When the year is up i will see what they can offer to keep me on.
when you have been offered £10 for 6 months i should have pushed it further or ring later and talk to someone else.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

up to 10 mins ago, we spent on average £60 per month for 750k broadband plus phone line rental and calls after several calls to different operatives, some nice, no in fact ALL nice. but less compliant, I finally got to speak with the lady who could and have acheived the following RESULT
750k broadband increased to 2mb in Jan. which to be fair is open to everybody.
phone line rental.
free calls after 6pm till 8am Mon to Thurs, and 6pm Fri till 8am Mon inc
reduced call costs to mobiles
I have been a customer for 6 years and this deal which is valid for 12 months now costs me £29.99 per month.
an interesting saving of approx £360
yippee`````Happy Christmas
