  • ;D Just rang NTL and got offered £17.99 per month for 3 months and said can i get any more than that as i am thinking of changing to sky. The man said as i am on digital TV he can give me a £10 per month discount for 12 Months. A saving of £120! Well done martins money tips! 8)
  • I am with NTL and have the Freedom package - Internet and phone calls for £15. I also have a freeview box. Have been with them for a year now and my mum keeps singing the praises of 16688 due to this site.

Am wondering if i can save money by switching my calls to 1166i88 or whatever they are called and finding a cheaper net provider. Basically the NTL package makes my net use unlimited and i get up to £15 worth of calls p/m.

Seems good to me and i also have a mobile where i never use all my free minutes after 7pm and weekends. So that helps saves evening calls.

Bit confused, shall i stay or shall i go?

    Can anyone advise me?

    Many thanks
  • This is a bloody shame. I have been with NTL for 3 months now with the base tv package, 600k broadband (hasn't been upgraded to 750k as yet from my download speeds) and the simplest of phone lines. Can anybody give me any tips on how I can get any discounts, 3 jobless students living in this flat.

    Thanks!
  • Nice one- phoned NTL today - we have Phone, Broadband and basic TV package - told them I was thinking about upgrading to Sky+ asked them what incentive they would offer me to stay with them.

After being directed to the Sales Dept, who were unable to help I asked for the disconnections dept. Once connected I asked about incentive to stay and the lady actually asked me what I was looking for - I told her I expected a discount for my loyal service and that this would save me the trouble of shopping around. I was offered a £10/month discount straight away.

    Thanks Money Savers.
  • :D
It worked for me tonight. Just asked what the price would be for phone and broadband only and offered me £10 per month discount to stay with full package.

great site! keep up the good work

    Hi all...

Think you guys are giving up a little to easy on NTL.....they go a lot further in wanting to keep you...take it to the line and dont give in so easy!!

If you make use of at least 2 NTL services, I strongly believe there is serious scope for some form of loyalty discounting....if your within your contract period, simply wait until thats over.

The word "loyalty" is wrong to use, but its the easiest way of putting it when talking to them, dont do this because they will know your game and give you a tenner no probs for a few months at least. Thats a poorish result.....your aim should be conveying serious intent to leave with multiple reasons, their aim is to counter those reasons with real incentive (cash discounts being last resort) as to why their products/services are better....you'll know when it can get no better and will no doubt accordingly have an appropriate change of heart at that stage to remain...:D !!

See the following post for my broadband shenanigans...!

    Its all in the blag!

About 6-7 days later from the above, I then received a regular bill for the phone usage (no cable tv as with sky+). I have 2 phone lines. Realised the line usage alone was more than my total call charges plus whatever the talk package I was using on top. Serious overheads for little phone usage.....a quick phone call later - managed to get the line rentals down to about £9.50 for both including the call waiting and also a few months of credits for the 2nd line rental since what was previously being charged was a little extreme.

Estimate my total phone and its services bill alone will now be around the £15 mark monthly, and the broadband at a humble £18.99 for the 1.5mb service!! !

    1 happy well connected chappy !! !

  • Thanks for this cracking thread. I made the call this morning. A very nice girl in customer services offered me the £10/month credit straight off. A good start I thought, so why not push for a bit more, in the nicest possible way. How about your total phone package free for the next 3 months sir? Oh go on then.
Saving £75 in the next 3 months followed by £10/month ad infinitum.
    BIG BIG THANX.
...and then the window licker said to me...

I told NTL that I had just retired and was looking to make savings. How much to start using preview?
He said £10 for the basepack and £15.50 for the film package, and when would I like the NTL chappie to come round and take their box back. Huh.
If I didn't have bad luck I'd have nae luck.

Just called NTL and said I fed up with no offers for existing customers. I was told that there were no offers at the moment. Asked to be transferred to someone who could deal with getting my service disconnected. I was put on hold and then a very nice lady answered and said that they could give me the family package for free for a year. A saving of £120 pounds for one phone call.
I would advise that you would have to say that you will disconnect your service. When I was put on hold I thought I was being transferred to the department that deals with disconnecting the service. Have a strong nerve and you should succeed.
    ;D
  • Can't believe how easy it was to save £120+ Have their TV box, broadband 750, base sky sports, phone anytime £9 + call charges, currently £20 to £25 as 2 of kids are at Uni. with mobiles for contact. From the 151 dial I asked for transfer to Customer relations. Laid it on the line how I could get same service for much less... few quotes of prices I'd researched. Got better phone tariff for ringing to mobiles, should save half of charges here + £1 rather than £9 for tariff. Best of all a £10 a month dicount for next 12 months for being a good customer - I must really have been over paying. Will now treat this service in the same way as I do investments, insurance etc... review annually. ::)
