NTL: I've just saved £120 per yr with 1 phonecall

I finally plucked up the courage, had my objection script ready and made the call to NTL. I've been a customer on the 500k broadband packaged for 1 year (min contract). I called them to ask if there were any offers and before I even finished the sentance a nice gentleman said I can offer you the £24.99 package for £17.99. How could I say no. Thanks all for the postings.0

I've just saved £196.50 with NTL ;D ;D ;D
Phoned them up & told them I was canceling my account because the broadband was too expensive (£24.99 PM for 750K) & wannado is cheaper, they accepted my cancellation. They called back about a week later & said if I stayed they would do broadband for half price for a year (£12.50 PM), I accepted.
Then I found a leaflet in my last NTL bill giving 3 months free Talk Unlimited 24 (worth £15.50 PM), & as my calls are between 15-20 PM I had been thinking of going on this aswell, so I rang them up & they put me straight on it.
It may be possible that anyone can ring up & say they've got this leaflet, it just says ring them on 0800 0524073 & tell them you've got the leaflet for 3 months talk unlimited 24. The TC's don't mention any minimum subscription, so you may beable to cancel after the free 3 months.
PS, only works on geographic landline numbers, so don't forget to use saynoto0870.comNext year we'll be millionaires!0 -
Blueyonder will also negotiate in a similar way, in order to keep customers. In my case, they slashed the price for phone and dial up internet.
But there is a key point to note, whether NTL or BY:
You need to threaten to leave and sound like you mean it. They don't give a toss if you were made redundant, or retired, or a student, or need a triple heart bypass. They will only give you a discount if it is the only way to keep you as a customer.koru0 -
Everytime I ring they keep saying NO! to me, I have the £25PM phone package and the 750k BB? They keep saying because I dont have their digital TV service they cant offer me any discount?0

fayraz,
Take your broadband trade elsewhere for less and downgrade your phone package to effectively line rental only then use one of the phone override facilities recommended within these pages. Next time they'll know you're serious...and then the window licker said to me...0 -

fayaz - There are discounts, just less than is offered to those who have phone, internet and TV. You have to be speaking to the disconnections team though and you must sound as if they are in imminent danger of loosing a customer.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I will try again, see what happens this time!0 -
they will only usually do it if you have been with them over 12 months and therefore out of your contract. Ask to speak to someone higher up in the dept. and if they still say no then take your business elsewhere. There are cheaper offers...and if you really like ntl u can always go back and use one of the deals for new customers. ;D
btw the direct line number to ntl cancellations is: 0800 052 0243. (they call themselves customer relations!)0 -
WAHAYYYY!!!!!
Just come off the phone to a gentleman from NTL customer relations dept. Told him I have BB £24.99, TV £19.99 and my average monthly bill is £75 - £85. Told him I was dissapointed with my BB service as the speeds were not up to scratch and was looking to save a few pounds a month and therefore wanted to cancel. Had a look around and found other providers who were better priced than NTL. Told him I had been listening to the adverts whilst on hold and was suprised at the incentives being offered to new customers. Asked if there was any offers for me to stay as I have been an NTL customer for 3.5 years. Reduced BB for 3 months to £12.49 and was told that in January NTL are doing thier very best to keep up with competitors by doing this,
300k broadband ---> 1mb = 17.99
750k broadband ---> 2mb = 24.99
1.5mb broadband ---> 3mb = 37.99
also got talk unlimited free for 6 months.0 -
been with NTL for some years and got hacked off with all new customers getting good offers ,so i called them up and after sitting on the line for tweenty mins finally got through,and told them i wasnt happy with the product at the price they were charging and asked how i go about getting disconected !
funny how all of a sudden i got offered 1.5 mb boardband at five pounds cheaper than what i`m paying for 750 k and a slight discount on my phone bill .
pays to moan !
But pity it takes a agressive call instead of them rewarding layality to long term customers0
