Options
We both work hard and life at times is a struggle but we get by however we never have the money spare to have a holiday overseas and this weekend we are managing a few days in whats looking like a rather damp Wales, Im just getting abit annoyed with a friend whose going away three times a year and to some very exotic places theyve just come back from a month in the Schceyles and will soon be going again on a 2 month cruise to the far east. What i find annoying is im hoping they are not doing it on purpose but they just wont shut up about their trips etc, and whilst i realise not everyone bar us is doing these month holidays etc i just find the what appears gloating somewhat uncalled for. I know they arent making it up because ive seen the pics theyve took etc.
Right ill stand by to get totally ripped apart as some jealous person and i should be grateful for what ive got etc ................go for it

If they are good friends, tell them that you don't want to hear about their great holidays all the time. Change the subject if they keep on. Make a joke about it "Oh yes, reminds me of the time I spent a night in a B&B in S!!!!horpe". (Poor S c u n t h o r p e - gets caught out by the rude word filter)

If they aren't good friends, don't see so much of them.

If it bothers you just change the subject when they start talking about their holidays. I don't see why they shouldn't talk about it, presumably they work hard the rest of the year to afford their trips.
Try and enjoy your trip to Wales, make the most of it and then next time holidays come up you can talk about the fun things you did too.

Tell them you had a lovely holiday in Wales, was rather wet so stayed in and had a sexathon. Beat that.

You know that by including that last sentence the more contrary amongst us are going to rush to tell you your feelings are completely understandable, don't you?:)

Seriously, it does sound rather galling. If they're good friends could you not say to them that as happy as you are for them, it makes you feel a bit depressed to hear about it?

    Other options would be:

1.See less of them and spend time with people who have less than you so the comparison is cheering rather than depressing.

    2. Grin and bear it and accept there's always someone better off however hard you work and however much you have.

3.Reassess your own situation, and see if it would be possible to reprioritise your spending to enable you to have a holiday if it matters a lot to you to do so. Generally people who spend a lot in one area are making sacrifices in others. Unless they're super wealthy. In which case, see 1.

    Put your hands up.

Perhaps your friend (and her partner?) have different priorities to you in life? No kids? Earn significantly higher income, thus can afford long haul holidays?

Are you sure it's them gloating about their holidays or are they just talking normally about them, like most people would do after they've come back off holiday, or is your jealousy causing you to view them like this because you feel bitter?

I have a friend who is constantly jetting off around the world every couple of months - I love it! I get to see all these wonderful places I would never have a chance to see. However she is at a different stage in life to me - she is single, has a very well paid job and prioritises travelling above things that say everyone else our age would normally be doing (e.g. having babies, getting married, buying a house). There's absolutely nothing wrong with that at all, everyone has their own path and different priorities.

Until you've walked a mile in someone else's shoes, you don't know how their life truly is, despite what pics may appear on social media. How do you know she doesn’t envy aspects of your life?

Concentrate on the blessings in your life and you'll soon find the green eyed monster won't rear its head nearly as much ;)

Presumably you spend your own money on different things (going out/hobbies/home improvements/etc) which you also like to talk about.

    Things tend to balance out....

If they spend ages talking about the minutiae of their air travel arrangements then I think the problem is not that they are bragging about their foreign holidays, but that they are massive bores.
