I have never heard of anyone saying they are bored with hearing about what someone dreamt about last night.

    Not buying it.

She meant peoples dreams (what they want to do and aspire to be) are boring to her. It's pretty obvious what she meant in my opinion.

You must have done - it's a pretty common concept.

It's up to you how you deal with you. The jealousy might be too much that you can't cope hearing it any longer and you tell them so (which inevitably will upset them) or you lose them as friends.

You might want to consider that maybe one day, they will both be in poor health, and that they might not be interested at all all in hearing how you went on a lovely walks in Wales without any pain, and how you enjoyed the fresh air and lovely food.

That's the thing with friends, sometimes you envy them and then situations turn and they envy you. A real good friend share both the ups and downs of your life.

I had to come back here to say, I have just logged on to facebook to see a friend has put the caption ''Just for you lot getting rained on at home'' with a picture of the beach at Ibiza with said friends legs and hairy trotters included in the photo

I hate bragging, that's not excitement that is just plain bragging so I responded with the comment ''I hope you realise you have probably invalidated your home insurance by advertising you are away from home'' - so far my post has 18 likes, and his original braggy photo, has one, and that is from his mother - so clearly I'm not the only one of his FB friends that sees this in bad taste.

Same. Modern equivalent of a postcard. Bit churlish to take offense IMO.

Do you know what this word means - as your use of it, makes no sense?

    churlish

    /ˈtʃəːlɪʃ/

    adjective

    adjective: churlish

rude in a mean-spirited and surly way

Is it really rude to find boasting to be in bad taste? Would you say that boasting is actually a pleasant personality trait?

Not really the same as sending a post card is it (uploading to facebook)? unless you are sending a post card to every single person you have ever met, or worked with, in order to tell them the weather they have is worse than yours? Not really in the good spirit of ''wish you were here'' or ''having a nice holiday'' type message

is it really worth negating your home insurance in order to boast about your holiday?

Yes I know exactly what the word means, thank you.

Do I think your response to your friends joke rude, to meet what was clearly intended as a joke with a comment designed to make him look foolish? Yes.

Do I think it mean spirited to deliberately try to make him anxious while on holiday? Yes again.

Do I think it's surly that you felt the need to respond in a negative way to someone s pleasure? I sure do.

Do I think bragging is rude? As in self congratulating that your comment got more likes than his? Hell yes.

Guess thats me with Andypandyboy in the naughty corner, no?

Surely it all comes down to whether the person share their news because they are genuinely happy and want to share their happiness and it has nothing to do with the sadistic pleasure of making others envious, and then you have those who do. Similarly, you have people who can feel genuinely happy for their friend's happiness and some who can't stand anyone getting anything they wish they had and resent them for it.

I wouldn't keep a friend who resented me for any good deeds that happened in my life so that I felt I couldn't share any of my good news for fear of offending them. Similarly, I wouldn't keep a friend who was constantly bragging and showed absolutely no interest in anyone's else joys, or worse couldn't provide any support to those experiencing sorrow.

My philosophy: enjoy your friends' happiness, be there for them when they are down and expect the same the other way around.

If they spend ages talking about the minutiae of their air travel arrangements then I think the problem is not that they are bragging about their foreign holidays, but that they are massive bores.

    :) Ditto Ditto Ditto
I know people like that, unfortunately.
Frankly,"I don't give a damn" where anyone has been when they brag about it.
I have also never had the green eyed monster,I have what I have and I am happy with my lot,you don't need the "newest car" or "fab holidays" to keep up with the jones's,if people need to brag about what they have, they are very sad and have something sorely lacking in their lives :(
