There are things in life money cant buy sadly thou the lifestyle we had planned hitting our "middle ages " is currently out of stock and no due date

The two biggest bores in life are other people's dreams and other people's holidays.

    Just tell them that.

Pretty miserable attitude. A true friend would encourage their friend to follow their dreams, and be happy for them to have great holidays. Is it not possible to find joy in other people doing well?

If everyone took your attitude we'd have no athletes at the Olympics, let alone medal winners. They all started with dreams that required a huge amount of encouragement and support from their loved ones.

If they’re both retired, have a fair bit of money behind them with no mortgage left to pay/other expenses and are in decent enough health to travel long haul (lots of old people have ailments/long term illnesses that prevent them from doing so), why the hell not travel?! It’s not like they’re getting any younger so why not see the world for months at a time? If you were in their position, would you not do the same?

They’ve probably spent the best part of the last 30+ years working, raising a family and all that entails and now they’ve retired, can get back to spending time with each other without the worries of being poor in their old age. Who knows what’s around the corner, assuming they have no grandkids at the moment, if their daughter has children their priorities may change and instead of taking x-amount of holidays abroad, you’ll find them spending their holidays in the UK with their grandchildren and family.

Big respect to them, there are far too many old people who seem to think life ends at 50 and you don’t have to look after your health or keep a healthy relationship with your respective OH, have no hobbies and just get old before their time so that when they retire, all they do is end up being an interfering busybody in their children’s lives, or just sit at home watching TV/potter about/waiting to die.

Instead of being jealous about their holiday plans, why not change your own lifestyle/job so that you can put extra money aside to go abroad? You’d be surprised just how little it costs to go abroad with a bit of forwarding planning.

You can't beat the beaches in Wales so no worries on that front. Finding the sun shining ......... well.. that's a different story.

I'm with the OP. Can't stand hearing about other people's wealth / better life than mine.

Couple of things to think about - firstly, you mention their pensions? Public service pensions are ok, but workers pay a huge amount out of their salaries into them. Without seeing figures and bank statements in black and white you cannot really make assumptions just on appearances. And secondly, many people who seem to have a rich lifestyle are living a lot of it on credit, how do you know they haven't got loans and credit card debts that they are juggling?

Yes, Wales may pale into insignificance beside cruises, but it has its own charms. As others have said, try and find enjoyable aspects of your own lives to talk about. Sometimes people feel the need to constantly talk about where they've been and how much they have spent on this, that and the other in order to mask some deep unhappiness somewhere. Or perhaps they are just enjoying the rewards of a long hardworking life?

There will always be people who appear to be richer than you, you just have to focus on the blessings in your own life and accept that you will never be able to compete.

As someone said once, why bother trying to keep up with the Jones's when you can drag them down to your level!

You sound miserable and bitter tbh.
Find some poor friends who can't even afford to go to Wales, then you might feel good about your life.

Why shouldn't they when they have paid into the system all their lives?

Sorry, but now you're just trolling. Why on earth shouldn't they claim the above? They're entitled to it. I would have more sympathy for you if you didn't come across so judgemental.
