For !!!! sake type daughter not DD, it makes it so difficult to read.

Took me a while to work what it meant when I first saw them, funny they don't shorten any other word.

Doesn't bother me that much, but I find is weird. DD, DS, and DD. etc... ('Dear husband,' 'dear son,' and 'dear daughter' ... ) No idea why people do it. I have been posting on various forums on and off since the turn of the century, and people have always done this.

They also put DGS for grandson, and DGD for grandaughter too, which I find odd; why not just put grandson or grandaughter?! As you say, they don't shorten any other word. Weird. I always say 'my husband,' or 'my daughter.'

No, I just hate DD, DS and DH instead of daughter, son or husband. Its just lazyness.

I think it's more habit than laziness actually.....

I can't understand the issue really. Some families have no option, in some cultures it's normal. If the OP feels so strongly about it, he should take it up with the MIL, posting on here just seems to be winding him up. Maybe he thought everyone would agree with him ?

The daughter was told she would be sharing a hotel room with her friend, she is, the MIL just omitted to mention there was only one bed.

Yeah it's so annoying when people type big old letters instead of the full word.......

Just curious, but in which cultures is it normal for adults to share a bed with a child they are not related to?

Because in 50-odd years of life, and having visited a couple of dozen countries, (and even worked in several,) I have never known it.

    Or even laziness?

I've always liked the lazy "in some cultures it's ok" argument. Some cultures do a lot of things that are unacceptable to us.

In some cultures it's ok to murder your sister if your family forgives you. Is that ok? Or do you draw the line at adults deceiving a child's parents and then sharing a bed with said child?

What makes you think I thought everyone would agree with me? It's a discussion forum full of people with different opinions, and that's why I posted - to learn from them.

I've learned that many believe that what my MIL did was normal and acceptable. I don't have to agree and I don't think I've changed my mind, but I still accept other outlooks and try to understand them.

Oh and your summary is incorrect. The daugher, friend and parents of the friend were told the MIL would be sleeping in a separate room. I think that was clear, but apologies for the confusion.

My daughter is 13 and would simply refuse to do it. She would take herself onto the floor with a sheet and sleep there.
It is weird......I am around the same age and cannot imagine why MIL would even want to share with 2 teenagers.
