Hi Richard. I'm going into my bank again tomorrow. Because we are getting nowhere with PayPal. I'm sure they want us to all try to claim back from our banks so they can get off the hook.. They ain't making themselves look very good
Take all your paperwork with you Tracey and tell them your not leaving until they help you lol :)

This has been posted before. Worth sharing again. Chapter 7 pg 62. Explains the entire process and who is responsible for bearing the loss. Can't see much evidence in any here that we will not get a refund. However, nothing certain until the cash is back.

Interesting document that, wonder if it's worth getting in touch with them to see if they can update using examples from LCH when this is all over? Specifically to flush out the PayPal bit as they are still saying they buyer protection is new to the arena. Only skim read it so far, but will give that some more time later, thanks must have missed it if you posted it earlier.

I think the 2 people they've paid out was a mistake on there part. Since then they've probably realised the massive billion pound bull they're gona face and re thought about paying us out. They told me again today to apply at my bank for chargeback. They are just fobbing is off and not giving us any clear information. It's day 23 for me and I can put my life on it we will be still sitting here 2-4 weeks from now saying the same thing over and over again.

And make a complaint to PayPal as they are basically advising you to invalidate your original claim and I don't think that's very ethical.

(And PayPal are unlikely to end up 1p out of pocket on this, they will be too well protected or they couldn't offer buyer protection in the first place.)
  • Two Barclays so far in this thread yet we have been told to wait a further 10 days, I;m starting to think its the amount rather then the claim:mad:

    Is this the interesting paragraph?

"7.40 For the present, however, our recommendations concentrate on ways to improve
information about chargeback and ensure it works more smoothly on retailer
    insolvency."

Confirmation that no one seems to have a set process for this maybe?

Here is an extract Natalie ..
    PayPal
7.96 PayPal is an online payments system: purchases may be made either by
transferring funds to a PayPal account which they can use to fund later
payments, or by using a credit or debit card to fund the purchase using PayPal as
    a payment intermediary
. Where a consumer simply makes a purchase using their
card through PayPal it will also be protected by chargeback.
7.97 Consumers who pay for goods using funds in their PayPal account
    are protected
    by PayPal Buyer Protection.
    32
This operates much like chargeback. If an order
does not arrive, or significantly differs from its description, PayPal may reimburse
the purchaser with the full cost of purchase and paid delivery costs. Purchasers
must open a dispute within 180 days of the date of payment
    33
    and then must
escalate the dispute to a claim within 20 days of opening it.
(Which we all have done ) Lets see where this goes .
  • I think if we can achieve something tangible like getting maybe mr.Martin lewis involved that would push PayPal.
I tweeted him but no response

Seems to be a verbatim printing of the bit in their T&Cs. Would like to see a case study put in once this is all over. But in all a very positive read that document. Sadly doesn't make any of this any quicker, but at least I am understanding why.

I sent MSE an email to see if they could get an updated statement out of PayPal and update the original article in light of the fact they have changed tack since they said the money would be back in ten days.

Not sure if it helps but my refund from Barclays was circa £300 (cost of the hotel). Luckily flights and transfers I had booked direct with the airlines and taxis.
