I have been following this thread with interest. Those of you who paid with PayPal aren't the only ones who have yet to receive your money back. I put in a chargeback request with First Direct for 2.5k debit card spend on 18th July, with plenty of evidence (flights, hotel & transfers not paid - all have confirmed this to me by email so lots of evidence submitted). Each time we speak to our bank the wait gets a bit longer - we are currently being told another three weeks. Either they are being extremely careful (they say that they need to put forward water-tight cases before claiming with sufficient evidence otherwise the claims will be thrown out, and you only get one attempt!) or they are fobbing us off. I have yet to hear of anyone who banks with First Direct who have received their money back, despite all the positive messages. First Direct say that Visa haven't given the official go-ahead yet, so if this is true, then I suspect that those people who have already received their money from other banks should sit on it in case it is retrieved within the specified 60 days.

There has been an update on the LCH website too 05/08.

    This is of note:

It is highly likely that you will be able to make a claim for non-delivered services direct to your credit card provider / bank. You do not therefore need to lodge a separate claim with the administrator.
Sounds like there's some "head working going on here"...It could be that the administrators have released this update purely to do some "damage limitation" on claims to the "bond" which allegedly wouldn't be anywhere near enough to cover the refunds required...That way there will be more cash to spread around a smaller "claim group" from this Bond....And the seemingly "non registering of insolvency" to date...Plays into that theory..As it just means a longer delay in any outcome...Thus forcing claimants to drop claims via administrators and head to the Banks etc..I think Paypal are playing the same game..Hoping people will register for charge back via there Paypal linked cards..Thus invalidating the claim through paypal under there "buyer protection" policy...It's a numbers game...For damage limitation...Just gotta hang tight ..until they either pay out or refuse...Whilst keeping an eye of the time constraints for charge back claims...
  • I haven't heard of anybody being refunded from that bank either. This really is dragging on. It's a shame for everybody to have lost out so much. We work hard for 1 nice holiday to have it ripped from under our feet. Hope you get this ressolved very soon
  • Hi Arthur I totally agree with you there 100%.

I'm sure it will get resolved but I think a lot of people are looking for a speedy resolution and that may not happen.
I made a chargeback claim on my Visa debit (Smile/Co-op) for £990 a couple of years back. In all it took around 2 months for them to refund me, I thought this was reasonable at the time and grateful that such a scheme was available to me, I also realised that chargeback was not a legal right but something that given as a part of a scheme operated by the banks.
I know that some people may not get a holiday this year due to the time-scales of getting a refund and not being able to pay again pending the refund and that's sad but it's not the end of the world and if they get paid back eventually most people will be relieved.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • It's the not knowing and the lack of communication . It's like we can't carry on with our holiday plans. In due to go in 3 weeks.,and need to resolve this issue before then. The problem with all this situation is we aren't getting clear sneered just conflicting stories. If we 100% new we would get the refund but just had to be patient that would be easier to deal with. But it's the not noing that's driving everyone safy
